I am going to buy cell phone for my son who is very possible to end up at WashU after summer. Can anyone tell me the most popular cell phone service provider that WashU students use so they can talk on the same network without minutes limitation? Thx.

We tried AT&T but she had horrible service. Had to leave the room to talk and it still cut out sometimes. We switched to T-Mobile and haven't had problems. Don't know about popularity though. I remember there was a thread on the old cc so check there for more info.

OWM ...
That's strange. Our S uses AT&T and his service has been fine. Never had a problem at all. Now, he's still using a 2-year old phone via the "old" AT&T service (pre-Cinglular merger). We were thinking of upgrading. Was your AT&T service the newer technology offered via Cingular? If so, we might not want to upgrade.
Before my S started school, we had heard that ONLY Verizon had decent coverage on the Wash-U campus (but again -- we've had ZERO problem with our "older" AT&T plan).

Dude, yes I believe it was via Cingular. But maybe it was the phones themselves? AT&T has a money back option. Just have him prepared to mail the phone back to you or have a way to get it back to the store before the deadline. They refunded it all (except the minutes obviously.) as we returned it w/in the 30 days.
