I'm going to get a new cell phone since I lost my old one. What carrier should I get to get maximum coverage on campus and in the dorms (I will be living on the upper floors)? I'm considering the LG Shine by AT&T right now. Is this a wise decision?

HEY THAT"S EXACTLY WHAT I HAVE...LG SHINE CU 720 AT&T... i forgot how my signal was when i was over there but i think it was ok.

At&ttttttt????????

Gets An Ifone Dood!

AT&T or Verizon are safe bets. no one will give you 100% coverage. both AT&T and Verizon have their own dead spots across campus.

i personally hate verizon because of their ubiquitous nazi user interface on every single phone. :p

hahahahaha^

2 cups, 2 paper clips, massive amounts of string.

Do it old school.

Some of you might be tempted to joke about me suggesting the use of 2 cups.

tried it.. doesnt work

I'd get AT&T, simply because so many people have them, more than Verizon I think, so you'd have free minutes. Plus, their Unity plan is awesome.

Btw, order from Amazon. You can get a really good phone for free, or they'll even pay you (free phone + a rebate)

moo, you need 1 cup... and 2... lol you know...

anyway back to topic, tmobile isn't that bad either, i get reception just about everywhere on campus except the 2nd floor at PAB, but no one gets reception there... tmobile have the cheapest plans :)

Thanks for the responses guys. And yes if I do buy a phone I will check Amazon first. I also was considering getting the Rizr Z3 with T-Mobile but I've heard stories about T-Mobile having bad reception especially in UCLA (which isn't the place for any cell phone reception). What is your opinion on this?

tmobile isn't bad... I get reception just about everywhere, right now im in sproul 6th floor and i get full 5 bars...

What phone do you have for T-Mobile? If I wanted T-Mobile more than AT&T do you think I should go for it?

i have a razr, it works fine, never have reception problems...

i've tried cingular, t-mobile, and verizon. verizon was the worst, though i have a feeling it was because of my phone. cingular and t-mobile were getting much better reception when verizon was only getting 2-3 bars.

however, my roommate switched to at&t in the middle of the year and didn't have reception more than two feet from the window, while i (t-mobile) could talk in the bathroom.

outside buildings, everyone has full reception.

^Do we really want to be talking on the phone in the bathroom?

What building were you in, toxic_waste?

From experience I would get Sprint or Verizon.

My ex roommate had ATT/Cingular and would always have to talk close to the window with his razor. This was on the 2nd floor of rieber terrace.

I have a RAZR with AT&T service and I got two bars well away from the window in my room on the 7th floor of RT during orientation. Not that 2 bars is much to brag about, but I could converse with others just fine on those 2 bars.

oh, i was in rieber terrace, on the side facing hedrick hall. if you're on the side facing rieber court, you're screwed for coverage regardless of which provider you have.

i also had reception in the hallways (except for one corner) and most stairwells, if anyone cares.

i have t-mobile and during orientation i had to be two feet away from the window to be able to use my phone in RT... and it didn't have any reception AT ALL from anywhere else

and that's why i'm switching to verizon... soon
