:censored: :censored: repeating courses...

Who's going to repeat a course this upcoming quarter because they found out they received C- or lower? I know for sure that I have to retake Chem20A again...

Who's with me...? ._.;;

P.S. Does anyone know if the grade on MyUCLA is the final grade? Because I got a C in Math 31A and I know for sure that no freaking way I got anything lower than a B with that extremely easy final... Anyone know if Professor FATTORINI forgot to curve the grade? +sigh+ If it's curved, then damn... I phail in life.

Anyone had to repeat a course before? What course(s) did you take and when did you had to retake the course(s)? How did you feel? What did you do to get rid of that embarassing/shame feeling? I need some antidepressants...

I feel you...
I just found out that I received a C- in my Hist 140B class.

nikkei...do you have to retake that class?

xerocreative,

the grades on MyUCLA are your final grades... they may not be official yet but they're the grades that will be submitted to URSA.... at least i've never experienced anything otherwise....

Isn't C- still a passing grade?

The MyUCLA Gradebook grade is always the same as the Official Final Grade.
Also, the Math 31A midterm/final curves usually have a fierce median: ~85%.
You can thank your peers who took AP Calculus AB/BC in high school for that.

Ya rly. I am one of those B/C kids, so that's why I expected myself to receive at least a B in that class. I got B+ on the midterm, and it seems like the final was a lot easier than the midterm. Gwahhhhh

Another question: When I retake my course again, my phail grade will still be on my transcript, but will not be included in my GPA. So... what is the downside of leaving the F/D grade on my transcript when I'm retaking the course for a better grade?

maybe everyone did so well on the finals that the curve worked against you...that can happen right?

Welcome to college.

It helps to have the mind set of college = full time job. If you haven't figured it out by now, most of your classes require a heavy input of independent learning/thinking and it's up to you to use the resources available to optimize your learning curve because no one else will be responsible except you.

If you're having trouble adjusting to the pace of the quarter system, talk to an academic counselor immediately to help figure out your options especially if you end up being on academic probation. One of the keys to doing well is by being a proactive individual.

Read here for details about repeats. You can repeat up to 16 units. UCLA only calculates the repeat grade into the gpa for the first 16 units. After the 16 repeat units, both the "failed" and repeat grade will be calculated into the gpa. All grades are annotated in your transcript. Nothing magically disappears and it stays there forever. For example if you earn a non-passing grade for a class and decide to repeat it, the type of grade, quarter, unit worth etc. of the class is annotated in detail in the transcript.

If you decide to apply to graduate/professional school, all your undergraduate grades will be forwarded to the school as part of your official transcript. Some secondary schools will only look at the first grade, some will only look at the repeat grade, some will average the two. It depends on the secondary school you apply to for the next step of your academic career.

Having a D/F is never a good thing, regardless of whether or not it's included on your transcript. In addition, it looks bad if you take the course twice and you don't do well the second time around. Hopefully this course is only of secondary importance to your major.

I "tri"peated a course before, when I was in community college. Classes in CC are so small that the professor recognized me. I was so glad that my professor thought that was my second times to take it...
Classes in here are so large that no one knows you are retaking a course.

what kind of class was that shirleyxY?
