Central Michigan State & Eastern Michigan State

If your daughter is looking for smaller, look at Central Michigan University. Eastern is definitely urban, located one city over from Ann Arbor and U. of Michigan. MSU has a big, sprawling campus that I’m most familiar with, since our son is there now, and our youngest will be starting there this fall. As far as an education degree CMU or MSU would get my vote.

Eastern Michigan is a plausible financial safety (and admission safety) for Ohio students who want to go out of state, since they offer in state tuition to oos students. I like that their study abroad programs are inexpensive. Really inexpensive.

Huh, if I were “looking” into Michigan I think I’d be looking at Grand Valley before CMU or EMU, although CMU certainly has it’s cheering section and loyal students. EMU not so much for undergrad. Those that know, I always had the impression that EMU was very much a commuter school? Is that true?

Theyn (EMU) have quite a few dorms but maybe everyone goes home on the weekends. I have just looked at the web site; I don’t know much about it. It’s the “in state tuition for Ohio residents” that turns it into an out of state financial safety here. I noticed that two of the seniors from among our Ohio h.s. band members are going to EMU next year. In December or so, I will ask the one we know how he likes it. :)

At Eastern Michigan, 69% of freshmen live on campus.

I always recommend if someone goes to Eastern to live in Ann Arbor and commute the six miles or so between the schools.

Toured EMU yesterday with the 2Kids_ The older said it reminded her of Kent State. Our tour guide at EMU lives in the honors dorms on campus and said he likes it very much.
The campus was pretty.

Depot Town is close to campus and cute. Eagle Crest golf resort is close to campus and the course is lovely; we stayed at the Marriott there.

EMU is 6 miles from U of M in Ann Arbor. Lots of things college age students like in the area. One would be close to Detroit for internship possibilities. We were glad we visited. It was only a few hours away for us. My son probably will not apply there, but one of my son’s older friends is going there next year and it seemed like a nice option for him.
