I applied and plan on transferring in the Spring if I'm accepted. I'm just unsure if I should do the optional essay or not. I already have my Associate's Degree but my GPA is a bit lacking due to some courses I took at Columbia College not working out so well. It's a 2.4, CMU requires a 2.5 for transfers.
I've Googled everything I can think of on the matter and everything I read about doing an essay or resume is directed more towards high school graduates.
I'm overly worried that these somewhat small things, such as my GPA not being exactly 2.5, will result in getting rejected. And everyone else I have asked so far has either been rude or unresponsive.

My main question is about the essay. I already have a letter of recommendation. I just don't know how strict CMU is on applicants and so I'm unsure if it's something I should worry about or not.

Any help is appreciated so long as it's not rude help.

Thanks.
