Central Washington University (Washington state) now offers a BFA in Musical Theatre (as of one or two years ago I believe???). Anyone know anything about it?

The BFA program is now about 4 years old. The acting and voice components are pretty good, but the dance is fairly weak. The dance classes are offered through the PE department, which to us meant that they were not very serious.

The folks running the program are nice, and their “claim to fame” is that they say the “all” of their graduates are working in the field. They are including anything that has to do with theater. Pretty good connections with Seattle theater

Ellensburg is small and pretty isolated-around 1 3/4 hours to Seattle, the nearest city. The campus is nice.

My D was accepted into the BFA there this year, but chose to go elsewhere. Let me know if you want more info

My daughter graduated from CWU with a BFA in Musical Theatre. I think she got a good dance education but that was something she had little training in prior to college. She is coded as the second highest level dancer at Disneyworld where she now works in entertainment. She loved all her instructors and learned a great deal in this program. She was part of the group invited to tour and perform in Bulgaria and Italy last summer and a number of her friends from the program are indeed performing on stage. True, the program is fairly new and not as well-known as some of the top MT programs but your student will perform and will learn at CWU.

4 inoregon …Where did you end up going to school and how is that program better?

thanks

bellevuemom… as a prospective student to CWU Musical Theatre Program… what can you say about the overall feel of the program that you got from your daughter having gone there… any comments would be appreciated

My daughter ended up at University of the Arts. Her decision came down to wanting to be in a bigger city than Ellensberg, and wanting more of a variety of dance and acting classes available to her. She did really like the people that she met at CWU.
