Centre College?

Our college counselor's raving about Centre. Its listed in Loren Pope's book, I noticed. Anyone have any feedback?

It’s a good college. It’s in the same athletic conference as Rhodes. Their calling card seems to be the study abroad program.

What distinguishes their study abroad program from anyone else’s?

I recently toured Centre. I can’t say enough good things about it.

micawber, could you elaborate? Better yet, fill out a visit report. Centre doesn’t get much attention here.

My d’s friend goes there. She is very happy. Not sure I can give you specifics, but she is an English major and is very happy.

They have always had a very high alumni giving rate, which implies something about the experience there.
I’m not sure about the reputation outside the state and region.

Hello All,

Forgive me for ■■■■■■■■ through the forums, but I’m an admission counselor and alum of Centre and thought I might be of assistance to you here.

LynxInsider is right when they say our calling card is study abroad, but we have a few others up our sleeve as well. Regarding what makes our study abroad experience different: 85% of our students do it, and we’re trying to increase that number to 100% by offering to pay for any student’s passport who doesn’t have one when they come to Centre.

The programs are interesting as well, but to keep in concise, here are three interesting tidbits.

1.) The majority of our study abroad opportunities are semester long. This is important to note considering many schools jack up their study abroad rate by sending their classes on two-week field trips to Mexico or Europe.

2.) Study abroad is included in your tuition and all your financial aid follows you wherever you go. So it costs the same to study on Centre’s campus as it would overseas. All you pay is airfare.

3.) We have three special study abroad programs that go to Strasbourg (France), London (England), and Merida (Mexico). These will have about 25 Centre students and a couple Centre professors all traveling together. So it’s basically like the Centre experience overseas. These also have three-day weekends to encourage travel while abroad.

We also have something called the Centre Commitment that guarantees you a 5th year tuition-free if we can’t make study abroad available to you. Details here: [Centre College](http://www.centre.edu/commitment).

<----That last link is the meat and potatoes of what we offer, and should give you a good jumping off point for exploring the rest of the College.

If you have any other questions, either post them here, connect with us on our blog, or Facebook…links below. I’d be happy to tell you anything you’d like to know about the college as either an alum or admission counselor.

Btw, quick question … how does Centre differ from Kenyon and Rhodes?

Just kidding. :)
