Ceramics and Environmental Studies

I posted this in the "Visual Arts and Film Majors" section, but I thought I'd try here too, so I could get other peoples' input (since I'm not looking for a school that caters exclusively to the arts) -- I hope that's not unnecessary or annoying...

Anyway, I'm looking for a school that has a good ceramics program (and, ideally, is strong in environmental studies as well). I'd prefer to go to a smallish progressive liberal arts school, but I don't want to rule out options like Alfred University. Right now I'm looking at Warren Wilson College (where Leah Leitson teaches ceramics -- I've met her and love her work), and Prescott College (which doesn't seem to have much of a ceramics program but really appeals to me otherwise). The Claremont Colleges, RISD, Evergreen, and the University of Rochester have all been recommended to me. Any other advice?

Are you interested in glass-blowing (artistic/commercial/scientific) too, by any chance?

Centre College in Kentucky has a number of courses in glass, as well as ceramics.
It’s considered a pretty good liberal arts college. Forbes magazine ranked it the 14th best educational institution in the country, much to the ridicule of many College Confidential posters. Dunno about their EnviSci program.

Nope, I’ve never really been interested in glass-blowing. Ceramics is somehow the only 3-D art form I’ve ever gotten into.
And I’ve never heard of Centre College; I’ll look it up. Thanks.

Consider spending at least 1 semester (or a summer) in China or Japan to study ceramics, if you can. See the major museums but also try to seek out some small studio operations.
China is interesting from an environmental science/policy perspective too.

Have you checked out College of the Atlantic?

Check out Northern Michigan University

and they have an environmental program.
