My sons long-awaited, wrapped, then unwrapped, then temporally hidden and away gift finally arrived in the cold (very COLD) midwest today! It is the USC's acceptance letter along with the certificate of admission. Unfortunately he can not see until Saturday as he is out of town playing for the all-state honor orchestra. I am sure he will be very thrilled and finally he gets to visit USC and the Golden State. We love LA!!!!!!

My son’s package arrived this afternoon. He looked at it in the car while I was driving… and was delighted- He said, “It’s official!” Later I looked at the certificate and letter and actually cried! After 12 + years home schooling him, I felt like I had done a good job- as his main teacher in the younger years, advisor, counselor, chauffeur to the many music lessons, orchestra, math and science competitions, etc. Helping him decide which AP courses and college classes to take, and which summer camps to attend- then making sure he could test with other kids… it’s been a long and beautiful experience! So back to California we go! (We lived there a number of years ago… )

Congrats to all. midwestdad2 and yorkiemom, you’ll notice many old-timer parents here on USC’s cc board and we all get vicarious thrills as we read your good news. While many of the students are ecstatic over getting their admission packets and finding their hard work on their applications and throughout their school years really has paid off, Ithe parents here also understand the magnitude of being awarded $170,000 (Trustee) or $85,000 (Presidential) or $42,000 (Dean’s) in after tax dollars.

The years and years of student loan debt our kids and our families will not have to incur while they get a fabulous education makes all the difference to many. So congrats, parents!

I’m unclear on the connection, if any, between receiving the acceptance packet and the possibility of receiving a merit scholarship. I didn’t see anything in mine specifically referring to a scholarship interview or anything along those lines. Does anybody know how this process works?

Thank you for your congratulations… midwestDad2, madbean and others.

And congratulations to you as well!

All of you are so encouraging and supportive. We look forward to meeting you in February and maybe even this coming fall.

ST Moore, we know from students in the past years that the early acceptances are for the scholarship candidates. They are sent before March so that you have time to buy a plane ticket and go to USC in February for your interview, school visit…

I got mine today! wooooo!! congrats to everyone!
it came in a big envelope, so i thought it was some scholarship packet or something. the “certificate of admission” was a nice touch. :)
