Some students refer to McGill as the Harvard of Canada although you will never see that claim made by McGill itself. I came across this USNews (the rankings mag) article written by a Harvard University undergraduate who is not too pleased by the quality of the education that he is receiving. I guess there is no pleasing some people. His complaints about Harvard are: classes are mostly lectures and are too large, hard to get to know his professors, little class discussion etc.

Maybe McGill is more like Harvard (minus the $30 billion dollar endowment) than we think!! LOL!

A Harvard Education Isn't As Advertised - US News and World Report

I attended the Harvard Secondary School Program. Harvard SSP allows you to take real Harvard courses on campus, which are taught by Harvard College Professors. Trust me and please believe me when I say this: Harvard is nothing to write home about. Also, all that money they have, the 30 billion dollar endowment, a lot of it was given to them by big corporations and the men who run them, so there are certain things about this world that schools like Harvard can not expose. Harvard is just a name and a training ground for rich kids. Every one I met there, and I would say probably about 60% of the student population (60% of Harvard College students do not receive any form of financial aid) are rich kids. I know kids who got in because they sent 1 million dollar checks with their application. Someone did a documentary on this so it might be on you tube. There is so much propaganda in today’s world, and unfortunately being smart is not a defense against it.

I think it is best to completely separate the two university.

McGill is nothing like Harvard. Whereas Harvard is the most prestigious university in the world with the best faculty and students, McGill is a public university that serves the masses.

If we want mcgill to improve, we should just bury our head and work hard towards that aim instead of trying to compare ourselves to Harvard verbally. The saying is embarrassing.

I posted that article link merely to show that there are malcontents, complainers, denigrators and whiners at every university, including McGill and Harvard.
