Crap! A 250! Is that even passing? Wow, I need to work a LOT harder. I knew it certainly wasn't fabulous but I didn't know it was that bad. Thanks for the info guys. Those numbers give me a little more incentive. :S

Oh, and those scores were after XC practice one day (that was the only time my coach was available for almost a month)... but I guess I should get used to being tired and taking these tests, right? It's not like they let you take a break for a few days to recoop for the PFT...

No excuse, sir. Geez. I need to kick my butt into high gear.

And one more thing... Stealth says 349, hornetguy says 250???

Thanks for all the help.

HAHAHA, ROFLMAO! Nice one hornetguy!

Yeah, I know my scores were bad. I've been working a lot harder to improve them. What's an acceptable mile time for a girl??

If stealth has the CFA requirements, than he could very well be right. From PFT standards, its closer to 250 I think. Even so, a more conservative estimate is better to look at for improving purposes. My composite CFA score was somewhere betwee 200-250 I think, and I'm here now. So, even if it is closer to my estimate, I don't think you need to worry. Hope that helps you.

O and, you usually will get time to rest before the PFT here. Could depend on your squad though.

Average female mile time for the CFA is 8 minutes.

What would the score be for 12 pullups, 70 pushups, 95 situps, and a 5:20 mile?
(these are the common events between the CFA and PFT)

CFA: I'd say around a 375. Since you didn't put in your shuttle run, that's a low estimate, but very good none the less!

PFT: no mile on PFT, but I'm sure you would do well on the 600yd. 12 pull-ups is worth 50 points. 70 push-ups is worth about 95 points. 95 sit-ups is worth 100 points. 600 yd run 100 points is a time of 1:35, jump is like 8'8" for a 100 points I think.

AFT is 1.5 miles - something like an 8:30 to max that.

Damn z man you owned me on the pull ups and push ups. I thought I did pretty good getting average on those.. lol. guess not. What was ur shuttle?

Can anyone tell me how the points are distributed exactly? Like, how many points you get for a certain number of pushups or situps? Someone mentioned you get a lot for pull ups, but anyone know the exact numbers. Thanks.

Also, anyone want to tell me my score with these stats? Good? Bad? (i'm a guy)

My Stats
58' basketball throw
7 pull ups
?? Shuttle Run (probably about average to above average)
50 pushups
95 situps
6:15 mile run

IIRC here's the low down for males
min avg max
B-ball throw 54' 65'? 102'
Pull-up 6 8 21
shuttle 11s? 10s 7.8
sit-ups 55? 69 95
push-ups 35 45 70?
mile unk 7' 5:20

For those more up to date or just know I'm wrong, corrent me please.

I think avg for push-ups was 50 on the CFA...IIRC...PFT average is 48?

Try to score above average, and when you show up for BCT be able to do these things back-to-back. It will make your Beast much easier if you can score/perform well.

This is embarrassing, but I had to retake my fitness assessment for West Point this afternoon because of my sit ups problem. I'm sending my new scores to USAFA as well. Take courage, bree, because you can get better at the events if you just practice! Mine still aren't fabulous, but practicing the CFA a little more made a big difference.

BB Throw - 42'
Arm Hang - 24 seconds
Shuttle run - 9.2 seconds
Sit ups - 68
Push ups - 40
Mile - 7 flat

And I definitely retract my earlier statement about doing your best and letting the Academy contact you if your scores aren't up to par. Serves me right. ;) I had to take a bite of humble pie today.

Yeah, I've been practicing a lot more too. How do you improve the basketball throw? That's still a huge problem for me and I've been practing for the past month. I have seen a lot of improvement though, and I took a practice CFA today. My scores were...
BB Throw - 30'
Pull Ups - 1
Shuttle run - 10.7 seconds
Sit ups - 80
Push ups - 30
Mile - 9:25
Today was actually one of my bad days; I think I've been overworking myself lately. How much longer do you think I should practice and how much do you think I'll improve?
On a happier note, I received a nomination, so one more hurdle is over with. =]

You should practice every day. Good job on your improvements, but dont let up!

Bree, are you using your entire body/shoulder in the BBall throw? Get someone to help you improve your form. (I got help from a coach at my HS.)

there are some strong rubber bands you can get (sometimes called "therabands"). they allow you to do the throwing motion while providing resistance. I used them in baseball for arm strength.

BTW talk to your school athletic trainer if you cant find what im talking about. they might have some.

I am the mom of a USAFA cadet---Class of 2009. He did his fitness test at the USNA summer seminar, so I have no idea how he did, but obviously his scores were good enough! My other son is applying and his scores were:

BB Throw 76'
Pull Ups 7
Shuttle Run 8.7 seconds
Modified Sit Ups 67
Push Ups 41
Mile 6min 35 sec

He is very fit, but his upper body strength is not the greatest right now. He's very tall and thin. I was worried that his push ups might not make the minimum---but your numbers indicate otherwise. I noticed that your mean scores were a little off for this years numbers---They are
BB Throw 68'
Pull-ups 10
Shuttle Run 9.5 sec
Modified Sit Ups 74
Push Ups 55
Mile 6.54

Anyone else know for sure about minimum scores? I know the academy published them last year, but not anymore. I wonder why? Is it no longer PC to say that someone is not fit enough to be at the academy?

I don't know the mins, all I know is that my son is also tall and thin. At summer seminar, his pull-up score was a joke along with his push-ups. He scored a whopping "7." He did pull-ups on a pull-up bar ALL summer long. He can now max out on both, so the pull-up bar was worth the money.

He's still skinny, though.
