Hey, everybody

I was accepted to CMU's music program for violin performance, and would like to know if there's any chance of being denied at this point. My grades are, well, decent; I rank 14 out of about 275 people (thank you, music classes) and have average SATs...compared to most of the school's other applicants, however, I am sure my scores are laughable. Anyway, I'd really like to get in, so I just wanted to know how this whole process works. Thanks!

Uh, if you were accepted to the School of Music, then you’re accepted. Congrats! Or are you referring to some kind of summer program?

I got a letter from the School of Music saying they would “recommend that the Office of Undergraduate Admission accept me as a music major beginning with the fall 2011 academic year.” Of course, the corollary is that they scrutinize my application – this is my very concern!

The majority of the application process with the arts programs lies in the portfolio; the recommendation of the arts program in question takes high precedence in the process. you’d have to be an abysmal student not to get accepted or have some glaring error on your record (IE you kill and eat babies on the weekends).
