I can't really speak from experience since I'm just a junior right now, but I've done a lot of research into the topic and have done alot of comparing between my current scores and those of people who have LOA/appointment so I'm not sure if you've already seen them but there are several good threads out there on this one in particular is

another with a bunch of other stats:

Right now my scores are (Male)
BBall throw: 71 ft
Pullups: 4 (I struggle so much with dead hangs)
Shuttle-run: 9.8(not really sure haven't done this in awhile?)
Sit-ups: 102
Push-ups: 61
Mile run: 7:00

Lc06 you passed but you want to try and get your bball throw in the 70 to 80 range. You did the minimum for the pullups, shuttle run could be a tad bit better situps are great, pushups you should shoot for at least 50 and the mile is ok

except push-ups and mile, you did above average in everything. good job.

minimum pull-ups is 6, not 8. ;)

excellent, so I take it I don't have to worry about anything as long as I can get my pull ups to around 8?

Is CFA pass or fail, or do you get certain amount of points if you barely pass as opposed to maxing everything? I've heard both answers and am not sure what to think, I believe USAFA has just pass or fail, what about USMA?

USMA is pass or fail as well. They tell us that the minimum pull-ups for males is 8 but maybe they just tell us that so we'll do 8.

Does anyone have a list of the minimum requirements?

CFA Score Comparison:

Below is a simple chart of the 100-point (maximum score) score for each of the events for the CFA, with the exception of the Pull-up/Flexed Arm Hang events. Please feel free to reference it to both practice and prepare for these events, and also so you will know what to expect when you arrive for the CFA.

Score BB Throw Pull-Up S. Run M. Sit-Ups Push-Ups 1-Mile Run

Male 100 102 feet 18 reps 7.8 sec. 95 reps 75 reps 5:20 min.

Female 100 66 feet 7 reps 8.6 sec. 95 reps 50 reps 6:00 min.

Thanks, but does anyone know the MINIMUM SCORES...

"Does anyone have a list of the minimum requirements?"

According to one of the WP field force officers on prosective.net, it is unlikely that published CFA "minimums" like there were with the old PAE will be made available. "Unfortunately, the perception was that published
minimums for the PAE only led to cheating by candidates who were not meeting the minimums, resulting in West Point accepting candidates who were unprepared for the rigors of CBT."

Thanks Ann,
Makes sense. I'm sure many kids also try a little harder when they are not aware of the minimum scores.

USMA does not list a "minimum score." I imagine if you searched you might find the average score a candidate recieves.

If it is 'pass or fail' then why is there a a certain amount that earns you a score of 100? This is contradicting as if you pass it shouldn't matter to what degree(80, 95, 100) you passed as long as you passed. Unless however you can fail in one event but max out in another event thus receiving 100 points and it making up for the event you failed in allowing you to pass overall.

I agree that candidates should not strive to just meet the minimums, and that is why I also believe that USMA shouldn't release info. like that, I'm just trying to figure out how it all works.

male minimums
pushups- 42
situps-42
pullups-8
mile run-8 minutes
basketball throw- unknown

They score because you have to reach a certain score to pass. A 100 in one event and a 15 in another will save you because of the 100. make sense?

I called my counselor at the AFA, she said theirs was pass/fail. My scores weren't that great and she said I passed just fine.

i remeber seeing that the min pushup is 42, but i heard of some people getting by with less....the AVERAGE pullups so far this year is 8, so i would be suprised if that was the minimum too.

West Point scores you because your CFA score is used as 10% of your overall candidate score. If you max out in 5 events and fail one, then you fail the whole CFA and you have to retake it.

hmm there seem to be lots of conflicting information on here, based on hornetguy's "max a couple events and fail one = Pass", and TMac's "Max all events except one = Fail"

I realize the CFA is 10% of the WCS, but lets say 2 canidates both have the EXACT SAME stats except CFA and only one can be appointed, they both pass the CFA but one maxes all the events where as the other just does average and still passes, does USMA differentiate in the degree of the score? if it was just pass and fail then these 2 candidates would be exactly the same all around no matter their scores. What would happen in this situtation? or would this be a special exeption from the rule and they would actually compare their individual scores?

jsing where did you get those minimum scores at?

That's what they tell us that we need to get as a mimimum to pass. I guess you could say it comes straight from the horses mouth, but everyone goes way beyond the minimum.

My original impression was that one fail = fail overall. But others posted that that was not the case. I find a minimum without actually being a minimum strange lol. So, take it with a grain of salt.

What they are really looking at is if you can handle basic. You can have room for improvement, just as long as you don't come in unable to do more than 30 push-ups and a 7 or 8 min mile.

Pretty much, just pass the dang thing and don't worry so much, its the least important part of the admissions process IMO. Your ECs can help show your abilities.
