CFA questions

<p>couple CFA questions, answer them all if you can</p>

<li><p>are the pullups with your fingers facing towards you or facing away, and how can u practice for em besides just practicing pullups</p></li>
<li><p>what do i have to get to pass, ive seen the maximum values many times now but im looking for somethign to work towards (aprox) besides like 4 min mile, 20000 pullups etc… i know its like an overall pts system but gimme a score in each 6 thatll pass if u can</p></li>
<li><p>can i count on pressure/aderenaline improving my scores when im actually taking it </p></li>
<li><p>im going to ss at usafa and sls at usma. so does that mean il have 4 opps to take the cfa. at both summer programs and then once for each academy when i apply?</p></li>

<li><p>Facing away. I think if your palms are facing toward you, it's a chin-up. It could still be called a pullup, I don't know. But for the CFA, it's palms away. You can try negatives to get better. Negatives are where you stand on a chair and get up on the bar to where your chin is above the bar. Hang on as long as you can and then lower yourself, but as slowly as possible. Maybe about 5 or more seconds. And once you're down, stay in the hanging position so you can increase your grip strength. Then repeat. You can also do bicep curls to strength your biceps, dips and dumbbell kickbacks for your triceps, and lat pull-downs for your lat muscles. My dad used to help me do assisted pullups. He'd hold my feet while I'd pull myself up and as more time passed, he'd barely assist me so I could get a feel for doing them on my own. But honestly.. you've probably heard it a thousand times: pullups are the best thing you can do to get better at pullups.</p></li>
<li><p>My ALO for USAFA told me to aim for the averages, at the least. He told me not to even look at the minimums. Be above average... I think they have average stats lying around somewhere. I don't think the events in the CFA are pass/fail anymore... I think it's how well you do in each category because it's based on points. </p></li>
<li><p>It may or may not help. Depends on the person. I'm the type of person where pressure does actually help. When I was practicing pushups at home, I could only do about 35 (I'm a girl). But when I took the CFA, I had my ALO there... I was the only girl and there were 4 other boys and their dads were there and since they were all watching, the pressure helped me and I did 43 pushups. So, it all depends. Don't rely on pressure completely, though.</p></li>
<li><p>I know that your CFA trial at SS at USAFA doesn't count. It doesn't matter how well you do, they won't take it. Which is actually good news, because if you do well during seminar, you can work on it and build yourself to where you can do even better when your ALO tests you in the fall or winter. I'm not sure about SLS at USMA, though. </p></li>

<p>If you pass CFA at SLS then it does count, yes. Usually pressure helps one do better in the events, but don't count on it. Be above the averages while you practice on your own, so that under pressure you feel you have the necessary requirements.</p>

<p>The pressure: in my experience and also the other student at my school who got into USNA, we did MUCH better at USNA's CFA than we expected (without having particularly tried to get in shape). I found pullups were easier than I expected. When you have people cheering you on, it's hard not to try for an additional push to get that last one out...</p>
