I received a letter saying I have an appointment reserved form me on the condition I submit my CFA and maintain my grades. What are the requirments on the CFA? Are there minimums? Also, I am not worried about the grades part but what exactly do they mean?(No failing, Ds, or what?)

1) Always do your best in your courses. Regardless.

2) CFA information can be found at the usmma website.
usmma.edu> Admissions> How to Apply> Candidate Fitness Assessment.

That page has the instructions you are asking about. Here's a link. United States Merchant Marine Academy

Browse around on the website, it will answer a lot of your questions. For further information, be sure to contact admissions. Also find out who your Admissions Representative is and ask him/her.

Yes, there are minimum requirements but, at this stage of the game, it is unlikely that there is anything you can do to seriously improve your score. As Zonker said, do your very best in every event. Good luck!

Glen66 how long did they take to respond to you after your application was completed?

I have everything in for my application.
I have a nomination.
Yesterday I got a letter saying I had to rerun the mile for the cfa which I am doing tomorrow. The only other thing I have pending is my medical status. Eye Appt. Monday!
I will also be playing volleyball and softball.

what are my chances for a med waiver/ appointment?

So if you don't do well on the CFA they just send you a letter telling you to redo a part of it?

yeah the letter I got said that if you fail 1-2 parts you just retake those parts. and more than three you have to do the whole thing. I passed everything but my runtime and I redid that today with a 7 min 19 s run and I think that will pass. Im confused on how I passed the pull ups/flex arm hang...

How many did you get?

no pull ups....and a 2 second flexed arm hang....those muscles never want to work

How quickly did you get the letter back from them?

about a week give or take a few days. Check your app status and it tells you pass or fail

Army can you tell me what scores you got on the CFA so I can get an idea of what is pass or fail? Also, up till when can you resubmit the scores?

not sure i think your a male, Im a female but my scores were: 49 ft throw. 8 sec run. 2 sec flex hang. 24 push ups. 64 sit ups. was a 10 min 42 sec run now a 7 min 19 sec run

ya, im a guy so its probaly a bit different. But at least I have an idea. Up till when can you resubmit scores though?

If this helps .... you will need to do 5 pull ups. 25 push ups and the basketball throw should go a minimum of 50 ft. I'm not sure what the minimums are on the other events but, S did the shuttle run in 6.9 seconds, 95 sit ups and 6min 11 sec. on the run

the letter I got said March 1st. If it's your first time I would get it done asap in case for some reason you need to redo an event!! GOOD LUCK!!

Hey I didnt think you could just take certain parts of the test? I thought it all had to be done to a particular order and time chart?? you might want to verify that.. I think you should have to retake the entire thing?

They let you just retake the event you failed if you only failed one or two events. I think that once you need to redo three you redo the entire test. Our D only had to redo the shuttle run, due to a measuring error by the coach.

Yes that is what the letter said. 2 or less just those events. 3 or more the whole thing again. THANK THE GOOD LORD!!

are you sure you have to do 5 pull ups?
