Cfa

I’m a freshman in high-school looking into getting into the USAFA. My academics are good, I already have pre-calc under my belt and I’m a year ahead in science. Unfortunately I’m not sure if I’m physically up to par. I currently can do 40 push ups, 45 sit ups, 6:45 mile, and 7 pull ups. Do you think I have a chance at getting into the academy?

Sure, you’re on course, just fine, from what you state.

USAFA’s PFT goes pull-ups, standing long-jump, sit-ups, push-ups, 600m run. Try to get to 12 pull-ups, 50 push-ups, 70 sit-ups, 7’10" jump, and a 1:50ish 600m. That will pass you. Of course, you want to be able to do 21 pull-ups, 8ft something jump, 72 push-ups, 95 sit-ups, and a 1:35(?) to max.

Wait… So to get into the Academy you don’t need to take the CFA?

No…you still have to take the CFA.

Keep your grades up, consider joining an athletic team and stay motivated.

CFA to get in. PFT to stay in.

My son just complete the CFA. Could anyone tell me how well he did?

Male
BB Throw 62.3 ft
Pull-ups 14
Shuttle Run 9.2
Push-ups 73
Sit-ups 92
1 mile run 6.25
Thanks

That’s pretty good.

I received an update on my son’s CFA that he took yesterday from the JROTC instructor.

Male
BB Throw 67.3 ft
Pull-ups 14
Shuttle Run 8.9
Push-ups 73
Sit-ups 95
1 mile run 6.25

Can anyone tell me how he scored or if the results are good enough for entry?

Disclaimer: I am no expert on this. But have you looked at
https://admissions.usafa.edu/RRS/Online_CFA_2013.pdf</a>
Armymisarge?

The file shows the average “entering candidate” scores (presumably, that’s the people admitted) for males of:
BB Throw 69 ft
Pull-ups 11
Shuttle Run 8.8
Sit-ups 80
Push-ups 60
Mile run 6:40

According to this sheet, the performances that get the maximum score in a category (100) for males are
BB Throw 102 ft
Pull ups 18
Shuttle Run 7.8
Sit-ups 95
Push-ups 75
Mile run 5:20

So your son hit the maximum score on sit-ups and was quite close to the maximum on push-ups. Your son’s pull-ups are above average, BB throw and shuttle run just a little below average, but not by much (again, I think that’s the average of those who went to USAFA), mile run above average.

So I’d say your son’s performance looks fine.

(I’m not sure why the sit-ups and push-ups are listed in a different order in the pdf file vs. your list.)

Also, for CrazyAsian: Since you are just a freshman now, you are off to a good start, and you have a lot of time to train and grow stronger. You can expect some “automatic” increases in strength as you get older, but training can really do a lot for you. I’d suggest putting some serious effort into training–there are several different sites on the web that suggest approaches to preparing for various service-related physical assessments.

Ok crazyasian, here’s a link that I think will answer your question
https://aloweb.usafa.edu/candidatekit/CK/Forms/WebPCQ2016.pdf</a></p>

That link will lead you to a document that shows the max score (perfect score) and the averages. The averages are averages of cadets who were accepted into last year’s class. If you’re above the averages, you’re good.
