CFA

Hello Everyone! I have been dreaming about going to West Point since I was in the 7th grade, and I would like some input on how my CFA scores are looking. Oh, and I’m female.

Basketball throw: 50
Pull ups: 1
Shuttle run: 9.1
Sit ups: 50
Push ups: 50
Mile: 8:25

I know there’s a lot more that West point looks at, like grades and leadership roles. I’m valedictorian of my class, President of the NHS, and I’m a class officer. I was team captain of my AAU basketball team for 3 years. Thanks for taking your time to read this and help me!

Hi @AlHall13! I’m really happy to hear you are looking into going to West Point.

Your scores look great! I would suggest lowering your shuttle run time to close to 8.5, and increasing your sit-up score to about 60. If you can get your mile time down a little, it would help, but you definitely passed the CFA and those are really good numbers.

If you really are dead set on West Point, see if you can modify a few of your exercises to do things the way you will have to once you are accepted. What I mean is, run two miles and see if you can do it under 15 minutes, do more pullups, and work on the technique of your pushups. These three things are what you will do for the Army Physical Fitness Test or the APFT once you are at West Point.

As a girl myself, I can tell you that you will gain respect if you are able to do more physically. If you can do real, quality pushups, that is the best. Work on tricep pushups and ones with your elbows at a 45 degree angle to your body, if you don’t already do pushups like that. Really focus on getting to or breaking 90 degrees. Do more pullups. Try to get to five by June because that help you out so much later on. Run up hills because I didn’t and I thought I was decent at running until I got here and they made us run up hills every morning.

For the rest of your resume, it all looks great! If you don’t already, see if you can get involved with some community volunteer program that you enjoy because it shows that you care about where you live and the future of your community.

Feel free to ask me any questions about what it’s like here!! I hope this helps you

Hi @TheMoreYouKnow , thanks for replying. I have accumulated over 45 hours of community service over the last two years, so maybe that will help a little. I was just informed that I have received a nomination from my congressman, so that makes me feel a little bit better about my chances!

That’s great @AlHall13!!! Your chances are a lot higher now for sure! See if you can get over 100 hours, that’s a good number I think because it’s fairly large, but also doesn’t take much time. I’m not sure if your school has requirements for community service, but mine set the minimum at 100 hours so I had that. If not, don’t worry, you’re basically 75% accepted already. Good job
