CGS and AP Credit

I’m going to be in CGS next year, and I was wondering if anyone had any idea as to how AP credit works there. It seems like you can’t get out of taking any of the CGS courses, but at the same time I don’t see why they wouldn’t take AP credits. Does anyone know about this?

i'm not sure about any of this, i'll also be a cgs freshman next year but i'm pretty sure that although you can't test out of those required classes you can still test out and get elective credits or credits towards your major for after the first two years. also if you look on the bu website you can see the scores you need to test out of certain subjects, there are a couple you can't test out of but ya, hopefully i helped at least a little.

BU is generous about giving AP Credit so I wouldn't worry about it. When you meet with your advisor at the summer orientation they will go over all of that and on each subsequent transcript it will clarify your AP Credit.

LisaP is exactly right. Although AP credits will not benefit you while you are in CGS, when you enter the other schools during your junior year, they will be credited to their respective areas i.e. language, english, history etc. When you all get your BU e-mail accounts in May, you will be able to access what is called the "Student Link", which is an online site that will show you your grades, as well as any external credits that are attached to your academic history, like AP's.

After I get out of CGS after two years, wont all my "basic" credits be taken care of for the school i enter? So in that case will there still be need for the AP credit?

It doesn't exactly work that way. You really should either discuss this during orientation or give CGS a call.

My roomate is majoring in biology, and used his Bio AP credits to take opt out of a course or two. And another person on my floor majored in international relations and was released from having to take a foreign language. fyi they were both in CGS and transfered into CAS

there are bio courses in cgs, right? i'm in AP bio right now, so could i get any credit for that?
