I was accepted into CGS, and i know its a fixed curriculum and stuff, but how different is the transition from CGS to SMG during my junior yr from a student who is already in SMG from frosh yr??

Is it really worth it spending 2 yrs in CGS if i want to be a business major? Will I be at a big disadvantage when i get to the school of managment?

I got into Penn State (Smeal) which is a good business school, but i love boston and the school in general, so that is why i am still considering BU.

If anyone can help me out, i’d appreciate it.

yea, i am not really worried about financial aid. Even though BU is more $$, my parents have left it up to me to decide.

So right now i have to decide if i want to be Boston with many financial business opportunities or at PennState with a highly ranked business program.

If I was in the School of Management as a freshman i would def go to BU. But only getting into CGS is why I am still considering my acceptance to Smeal at PSU.

I am in the same situation. I was admitted to CGS and would like to go to SMG. What it really comes down to is how much do you like BU and how important is the BU degree to you. I talked to a freshman in CGS this year and he kept stressing that he comes out with the same degree as anyone else at BU and that he LOVED boston and would do anything to go. I am interested in marketing and fashion merchandising. Does it really matter if i go to BU or northeastern? probably not. I like BU better but am a bit turned off by CGS's structured curriculum. I also worry about transfering to a different school from CGS. I LOVE NYU but was rejected. If i wanted to transfer there, would they accept CGS credits? I am not sure. I had been talkin to a student in CGS on college confidential with the user name : GOBU. You might want to message him.

thanks vhs, NYU was my top choice too, but i was rejected aswell. bummer. The core curriculum kind of turned me off too at CGS, but if everyone ends up with the same degree, i dont find it to be a big deal besides stickin up with unnecessary classes for 2 yrs..

PennState Smeal's rank is what keeps me considering it. It seems like a great school, but i dont kno about being so isolated..

As soon as school starts in September, you will learn about the CGS "Fact Sheets". These are sheets written specifically for current CGS students. Basically, they are "instructions" on what you need to do to transfer into a certain school during your junior year, and are specific to whatever school you so choose to enter. They include what classes you must take for your freshman and sophomore electives, as well as what your future beyond CGS entails.

I can say that for SMG, it is recommended that you take math 120 (pre-calc) during the spring of freshman year, and 2 rigorous SMG classes during your sophomore year. BE ADVISED that for CGS students planning to go into SMG like myself, not only must you complete 2 classes during a summer session after your sophomore year (or overload during your junior and senior years:which means taking more than the 18 credits you would normally take during one semester), but all SMG classes MUST be taken at BU, which means you cannot take classes over the summer at another school for credit towards completing the SMG requirements. To help you decipher what all that means, please go to: http://www.bu.edu/cgs/current/index.html and go down half the page to where it says "Continuation from CGS to other BU schools and colleges" and click on the acronym for whatever school you are interested in trasfering into. This will give you specifics, like I mentioned above.

Please feel free to message me if I can be of further assistance.
