Are there any current/former CGS students here? I’ve heard any number of mixed things about CGS and would love to speak to some one who actually went there.

Thanks in advance.

I was accepted to CGS but I do not plan on attending. I just can't do it again. From what I understand it's almost exactly like high school. Instead of choosing courses you choose a template and follow a schedule similar to that of high school save a few electives. I also read a few of the course syllabi and they seem pretty remedial. As interesting as learning about the phases of the moon sounds, it is just not worth wasting two years and $80k (I'm assuming they gave you nearly nothing in terms of financial aid since you're in CGS).

I scoured the internet for information about CGS and I found that most of the students in it are not happy and everyone else not in it looks down on it. For example, you've probably heard Crayons, Glue, and Scissors and Commonwealth Grammar School as acronyms of CGS. Its not considered a real school either, more of an extension of high school (13th and 14th grade, if you will). Its true that you graduate with the same exact diploma, but are you really getting the same thing, the same education as all the other students? No, probably not. No matter how "structured" your two years after CGS are I just don't believe it's possible to do everything you'd normally do in four or even five years depending on your major in just two years. Students in your desired major will probably have a ton more experience than you and twice the number of internships.

REALLY UNDERSTAND what you're getting yourself into before you decide to go with CGS and understand that there will be no transferring out. If you want to continue to one of the other BU colleges after two years you have to stick it out. Personally, Id only go with CGS if it was my last or my only choice, thankfully its not. Good luck.

Disclaimer: Im not actually a CGS student so take from this what you will.

Thanks Swf. That's pretty much the perception I got of it as well. However, as I need to choose between an OK state school or BU CGS while I wait for the GW wait list - I'm looking for anyone who might have a unique perspective/opinion on the matter.
