Ch-ch-chances? (UCs)

Class of '09!

Residency: California
Ethnicity: Chinese
Major: Undeclared? (but hoping for Biology or Chemistry)
UW GPA: 3.846 (3.821 if 2 community college classes included)
Rank: 32/589 (22/589 if you include freshmen year?) - school doesn't not weight classes
UC GPA: 4.154 (4.107 if CC classes included?)
ACT: 27, 25 (it dropped :()
SAT: SAT I: 1910; Critical Reading: 580; Math: 650; Writing: 680
SAT II: Math 2: 630; Japanese: 580; US History: 700 (yes, they're embarrassing)
APs: World History (5), Calculus AB (5), US History (4), Psychology (3)
This year's APs: Physics B, English Literature, Calculus BC, American Government + 2 evening CC classes (Developmental Psychology & Nutrition)
Community college classes: Precalculus algebra (A) & trigonometry (A) - included in high school GPA; elementary statistics (A) & English 1A (B) - not on high school transcript
ECs:
- Volunteer at local native plant garden for 1 year (100+ hours), member of CSF & Interact club at school (1 year)
- Japanese Language Proficiency Test level 4 and 3 awards (yet I got a terrible SAT II score lol)
- AP Scholar with Honor
- Treasurer of a club this year
- First in my family to experience the stress of college admissions...

(I'm not sure how UCs handle community college courses?) I hope my stats listing made sense.

Hindering chances: Downward trend (2 B's in 2 classes, both semesters of junior year), SAT, SAT IIs, ECs (didn't know it was super important until the end of sophomore year!)
Applying to: Cal, LA, San Diego, Davis, Santa Barbara, Irvine, SJSU

hmmmm... your GPA is good. And those SAT II's are nothing to be ashamed of. The SAT I score is a bit under avg for berkeley and LA, but its a match for SD...

SD - Match
Davis - In
SB - In
Irvine - In
UCLA - low reach
UCB: low reach

bumps (:

you say ucb and ucla low reach? heckkk nooooooo. those are high reaches. HIGH HIGH reaches. gonna need at least 2100 to have a chance. also gonna have to raise sat 2 scores.

SD is also a reach. the other uc's u shud be fine.

San Diego (Averages: 4.07UC GPA, 1943SAT) is more of a match.

UCLA has a UC GPA of 4.2. UCB is around 3.9-4.0. those schools are not high reaches. i think in all UCs except its a high match in UCLA and Cal

no offense but try to bring up the sat 1 scores a bit to at least 2050ish :)

im referring more to his sat scores.

still not really. people need like an 1800+ to have a good chance. hes good in SAT wise

Reject from Cal and UCLA. In at everywhere else.

A few changes:

Chinese school during freshmen year (it was a waste of money though..)

Low income (...:[)

1 evening class at CC - Nutrition

3 AP classes this year

NHS member now

ELC

Applying to: Cal, LA, San Diego, Davis, Irvine, Santa Cruz

Possible things to mention in essays: Having a Chinese-Cambodian family (that speaks in an odd mixture of the 2 languages...), loneliness in elementary and middle school (tied to my family's obsession with saving money) and how I've changed since, lack of academic motivation until high school, starting with Algebra 1 freshmen year and working my way up to Calc BC senior year, etc.

Chance me, onegai?

Aww, c'mon guys.
