I want to go to Colby so bad its painful. It is pretty much my absolute dream school. I applied ED, so I think that might help a bit.

Three years of French AND three years of Latin (I doubled up sophomore and junior years)
rigorous senior year schedule. got all A's first quarter

Essay: Pretty great. I wrote about how I'm confused about what I want out of life
and how I perceive myself, all through the analogy to a box of crayons

moving away from my childhood home and looking back on all the scuff
marks, stains, imperfections of my house and seeing them as beautiful
because of the memories tied to them

Interview: went REALLY well. I interviewed with Mr. Beverage, Dean of admissions
I also sent in some creative writing pieces with my application. Mr. Beverage told me to when I told him I wanted to major in creative writing, and had some stuff of my own

Please, please chance me. I want to know if I should hold some hope or not

I am currently a student at Colby and am a Tour Guide (that being said, my point of view in no way coneys that of Colby or its Admission’s Office). Your stats are good, but that GPA is lower than most of the accepted students. Your ECs are great but remember that too many can be a bad thing (you want to focus on something you really care about). I think Colby wants well lopsided students; students who can offer a very different perspective. We dont have a population made completely of well rounded students because that would be boring. That being said, we do not have anyone here who is unintelligent or under-qualified. I think you have a good chance, but there is no surefire way. I would recommend against asking others if they think you have a chance of getting in to XYZ college because when it comes down to it, you wont know until you know.

BTW Parker Beverage is awesome. Did you know that he reads EVERY SINGLE application. NO JOKE. When I introduced myself, he remembered my application. Admissions here really do care about the individual and will work hard to get the best students in the applicant pool!

Hope that helps.

(I dont have time to proofread this because I have a massive exam tomorrow. Yes, CC is my break time)

My advice: Do not get overly anxious waiting for the letter to come. I know I did for my ED school and was let down. What will happen will happen in due time. I am at Colby now and would never turn back. Do not start countdown’s and the like if you can help it, it just psyches you out.

Hello everyone,
I’m an international student (Nepal) with average scores (I guess) and average Ec’s. However, I am very very very much interested in Physics and Astronomy and I have selected Colby for RD (ED II if possible) after a brief research. (I lost hope of getting into an Ivy after my SAT scores came out.)

SAT:
CR 590
Math 680
Writing 630

GPA- 3.75
Rank- Top 2% (very competitive school with rigorous curriculum)

EC’s:
President- Astronautics club
Coordinator- student magazine committee
Event Manager- social service council
Volunteer- Interact club (Rotary International)
Volunteer- International Year of Astronomy 2009 programs in Nepal
Member- environment club

Essay- egoistic (starts with “I believed I was God” :$) and shows interest in physics and astronomy

What are my chances???
P.S. Will I be able to meet the deadline for RD if I retake my SAT in Jan???

I mean… can’t I submit everything except my SAT report before the deadline and then SAT score after the deadline? I can send my previous SAT score though.

CS 13, I’m pretty sure you can do that. I called and asked the same question for the November SATs and they said it was fine and that they had tons of people in the same boat. Just call and clarify. Good luck to both of us!!!
