I just want some feedback as I look into applying to college this fall. I'm interested in Chemical Engineering.

You have a really good shot! Athletics will help. My friend had a 2350 superscore SAT, 36 superscore ACT, 12 AP classes (4s ans 5s on all exams), 4.9W GPA, 4 leadership positions, lots of EC’s, state competitor in the Academic Olympics, Merit Scholar, etc. But no athletics (coaches wouldn’t take him). And he is white. He got rejected from all the Ivies but got into Hopkins.

dblazer is exactly right. I know of friend of mine that has very similar stats to you and is a great runner that got into Princeton EA and is going there this fall. If he has a shot, you do. Just decide on which college you want to EA/ED to and you will have a great chance of getting into that college.

Yes, your chances are great because you have a decent SAT and you are URM. However, I wouldn’t say you are guaranteed because your SAT is not that good, and you have no ECs.

Thanks for the responses! I didn’t know being a minority had THAT much weight. I know my SAT score isn’t off the charts, but except for CR which is on the lower end of the spectrum (not meeting the exact ‘700’ for some), I’m well in the ranges for these colleges. And for the record, I’m not that great of a runner lol (not on par with recruitment times), but I spend a large amount of time practicing and I really like the challenge of competing. After visiting some of these colleges this summer, I’ll get a better idea where I want to apply EA/ED!

Oh yeah…I do have some more EC’s I just didn’t list all of them as they’re kinda scattered and ‘cloudy’:
Angel Ambassadors, Member (10-12)
Middle States Planning Team, Member (10-11)
Middle States Advisory Committee, Member (10-11)
Debate Team, Judge (11-12)

In addition, I have more honors and accomplishments if that helps:
National Honor Society (working towards leadership position) (11-12)
Math National Honor Society (Mu Alpha Theta), Member (10-12)
Spanish National Honor Society (Sociedad Honoraria Hisp

Wow, your list os EC’s is fantastic. Also, your SAT and gpa are great. If you keep your Senior year grades up for first semester and apply early, you have a great chance at whichever schools you choose to apply to. Good luck :D

Brown, Cornell, Georgetown, and even possibly Johns Hopkins are all very good possibilities for you. You have good chances too at UPenn, Duke, and Yale as well though I think those aren’t guarantees. As long as your unweighted GPA>3.90, you have very good chances at the Ivies. They’ll be looking for that high unw gpa. Also, I don’t know how many APs your school offers so I’m not sure if the number you’re taking is average compared to the rest of your class or if it’s exceptional. It all depends on the school because colleges will take the school profile into account. Overall, good ECs and test scores along with the minority factor are awesome, keep it up and you should be in a very good position for many acceptances! :)

My unweighted should be about a 96 (not sure what that is on the 4.0 scale). My school offers 13 APs and I will have taken 6 AP classes (7 AP exams). According to my school’s college counseling office, in my school 3-5 AP classes are recommended for Tier 1 schools. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)

You are definitely in at more than one Ivy. Your aplication is very well rounded (even down to the URM status haha). Make sure you so well on the Math II test, so the admissions reps will have nothing to complain about. Great shot at most/all of those schools.
