Chairs

Are chair(s) provided in the dorms? (i'm guessing yes)

If so how comfortable are they? Are they the hard wooden type or the comfortable leather type? It's just that I tend to have back problems, and I need a good chair to help me survive four tough years of college.

I'm deliberating whether I should bring a chair to campus. Any help appreciated.

I laughed outloud at this post because my mom recently asked me to find out the sizes of the chairs provided in the dorms so she can get comforters for me. :D

I think that they’re wood upholstered in fabric with a little cushion.

how many chairs in a single? in a double?

they’re two-position recliners with armrests. crooked is right, wood upholstered in fabric with a little cushion. they’re pretty good.

the ones barnard provides are all wood, no cushion, and much shorter. the columbia chairs are pretty nice.

this is a kinda ridiculous thread.

It’s not a bad thread…furniture is one of those things you are never given much info on and that’s sort of what this whole board is for.

Not all of them. Sometimes they are the plastic and metal no-armrest, no-recline type often seen in classrooms. Even the nicer ones you talk about I wouldn’t call “pretty good” by any stretch of the imagination.

Buy a chair. I’ve had back injuries from sports since high school and this past year I really aggravated something with the crappy chair that was in my room. Throwing your back out because of your chair right before finals is NOT a fun thing to do.

Also, if you have back problems bad enough to think about buying a chair, make sure your bed this year has a piece of plywood under it (you can request them from Housing if there isnt one on the bed already). An egg crate of some sort also helps.

thanks for the responses everyone

You mean put the plywood or egg crate UNDER the mattress right? (I’ve heard this thrown around a few times on this forum.)

@xruan:
yeah…asian parents  (I’m inferring from your username)

exactly :)

Bed frame, plywood, matress, egg crate, (maybe a slip over the crate, ie matress cover), sheets. In that order.

Why do you need an egg crate?

To be clear this is what we are talking about:

[Amazon.com: Egg Crate Convoluted 3 Inch Foam Mattress Pad / Topper Twin Size: Health & Personal Care](http://www.amazon.com/Crate-Convoluted-Inch-Mattress-Topper/dp/B000MZYDF6)

Because all of the mattresses are terrible?
