In hindsight, I can see why it should by "had lost," but my reasoning mostly revolves around it sounding right...could somebody please provide a grammatical explanation as to why "lost" is incorrect.</p>

<p>and for the second one just remember if there are two past events talked about in a sentence one of them has to have a “had” in it</p>
