will have strong rec's and a good supplemental rec from my nih mentor
also have strong essays most probably

obviously you’re getting in…

any other opinions? and I know this might be annoying because it might seem like i’m doing this just to like show off or something…but sigh, i just did early stanford and now i feel miserable cause im probably not going to get in, so now im wondering if i’ll get into duke.

this is for Duke regular, right?

yeah. it’s for regular

What are your other schools? Any Ivies? You would look strong for Columbia and perhaps Dartmouth. For HYP, as an Indian, you have to defy gravity.

hm. my other schools are maryland, jhu, washu, upenn, harvard, yale…and really? i thought columbia and dartmouth would be hard for me? and frankly i think i may not get into duke.

do you think i might get into duke?

You are certainly a competitive applicant for Duke, but, yes, you’re right, these schools are ridiculously competitive. Duke rejected 58% of valedictorians and 43% of 1550+ SAT (Math + Verbal) students in 2006. This year, it’s going to be even higher. All of the Ivies are in similar boats.

If Duke wanted virtually all 1500+ M+V SAT students who graduated top 10 in their class, they easily could, but they look at other factors as well. This isn’t to say that those aren’t important, as they certainly are, but just because you have a good GPA and SAT score doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed admission. Now, for your personally, your ECs are solid so I certainly think you have a very very good chance, but we all have to realize admissions to the top colleges in the US is somewhat of a crapshoot and it’s impossible to predict really. But good luck! You’ll certainly get in *somewhere *amazing.

thanks bluedog! that was helpful! I’ll try to keep my hopes up:( but i’m definitely not looking forward to december when my stanford decision comes out >.<

also, will submitting an arts supplement for bharatanatym help me…I don’t preform and am not recognized but have been learning for a very long time and am a decent dancer…submitting one can’t hurt right, it can only help?

From bluedog’s statistics, just note that 42% of valedictorians ARE accepted into Duke. You seem to be a strong applicant anyway, so you will have a decent chance at Duke and any other college you apply to. Good luck!

thanks. any other opinions? also, will an interview help me? I pretty good at them; im not one of those shy people.
