Chance 3 of 3: Senior Year: I've done what I can do

<p>OK, instead of making a billion chance threads, I limited myself to 3, one when i discovered this site, as a preliminary chance, one before senior year, and this final one, with the most accurate information.</p>

<p>Why should you chance me?
1. I fully intend on filling out the results card in every college forum for whose college I apply (along with how people said I would fare, to give others an idea about the accuracy of chancing for particular college)
2. I'll chance back (but if I can't chance myself, why would you want me chancing you?) but i'll do it none the less.
3. Senior Year is an incredibly anxious time for everyone, and I just want some idea of how I'll fare, so I can adjust my ego ahead of time (to prepare for a crushing shock, or what not).</p>

<p>This is my final, updated Chance with everything in it.</p>

Columbia:
UPenn

<p>Looking at my resume, I guess I'm trying to be optimistic, because I'm the perfect (maybe? )applicant for colleges trying to look good for USNWR (1600 SAT and top 10%), but I do understand that getting 4 As and 4 Bs in all APs is NOT what the ivies are looking for.</p>

<p>Thoughts, Opinions, Criticisms? I can handle it! Thank you so much!</p>

<p>Bump back up</p>

<p>Even though your GPA may not be fantastic, I think it’s pretty good (considering the courses you’re taking). You have a great range of ECs, too.</p>

<p>That being said:</p>

<p>Harvard - reach (as it is for 99%)
Columbia - reach
Penn - low reach
JHU - low reach
U of C - high match
Rice - match
Brandeis - I’ve heard of this school, but I haven’t looked into it
William and Mary - in
UVA - I don’t know too much about UVA, but I would be surprised if you didn’t get in, especially being in-state
Williams - high match
Amherst - high match
Rochester - I don’t know much about this school, sorry (it’s a safety though, so I assume you’ll get in)
JMU - same as Rochester</p>

<p>Good luck! Don’t worry too much - I’m sure you’ll get into plenty of great schools!</p>

<p>Harvard - High Reach
Columbia - High Reach
UPenn - High Reach
Johns Hopkins - Medium Reach
UChicago (EA) - Low-Medium Reach
Rice - Low Reach
Brandeis - High Match / Low Reach
William and Mary (IS) - Low Match
UVA (IS) - High Match
Williams - Medium Reach
Amherst - Medium Reach
Rochester (Safety) - Low Match
JMU (safety) - Safety</p>

<p>Your GPA is very low for Ivy league schools and without being in top 10%, chances at Ivies and comparables are very slim (<1%)</p>

<p>^ I am in the top 10% and I will probably move up to ~25-28 by the semester.</p>

<p>oh, and for what its worth, I have an upward trend</p>

<p>4.13
4.45
4.62
5.02 (all weighted, obviously)</p>

<p>Harvard:reach
Columbia: reach
UPenn; low reach/high match
Johns Hopkins ; match
UChicago (EA); match
Rice; high match
Brandeis; in
William and Mary (IS); high match/low reach
UVA (IS); probably in
Williams; match
Amherst ;match
Rochester (Safety) ;in
JMU (safety); in</p>

<p>Your GPA is low but your class rank negates that because you’re in the top 10%… I think you have a solid chance at all of the schools… I would suggest working on improving your rank if you had one thing to focus on.</p>

<p>You need to be top 5% for most of those schools, that includes Williams and Amherst. You are very, very top heavy.</p>

<p>Not to add more to your stress, a student from a top private school in NYC, with 3.7 UW, took hardest courses, and with very good test scores, was WL at Cornell (ED then RD). He was admitted to CMU. My daughter also graduated from the top private school of our state, top 2-5% (they didn’t rank), was rejected from all top 10s, and WL at Cornell and Duke, but eventually got off due to her GC’s effort.</p>

<p>You have very good test scores, but low GPA, often top tier schools do not look kindly to that.</p>

<p>You could get lucky, but it could work other way too. I don’t know much about JMU or your in-state (how they view resident applicants). NC loves residents, but CA loves non-residents. Just make sure you would be happy with your IS if admitted, and if they are rolling then apply asap so you could focus on your very high reaches.</p>

<p>Your ec’s are good. I don’t think there is anything in your application that should work against you in admissions. So I guess now it comes down to the subjective—how have you impacted your school? What makes you a unique individual out of the thousands of highly qualified applicants (like yourself) that have also applied.</p>

<p>I think you have a great shot, you’re foot is already in the door for all the schools you mentioned. All you have to worry about is selling yourself through the application.</p>

<p>but what do I know? haha I’ve never been an admissions officer.</p>

<p>I’m with the other posters. You GPA and class rank are holding you back for the top 10 schools. Your ECs are very interesting and your scores are excellent. Good job on the 1600/1600 M + CR score, btw! I’d kill for a 750+ CR right about now :(</p>

<p>Harvard: high reach
Columbia: reach
UPenn - reach
Johns Hopkins - low reach
UChicago (EA) - reach
Rice - match/high match
Brandeis - not familiar, sorry
William and Mary (IS) - in
UVA (IS) - in-state, so I’d say it’s a borderline safety
Williams - reach
Amherst - reach
Rochester (Safety) - in/low match :
JMU (safety) - in</p>

<p>Wow, your SAT is insane. If you had above a 3.8 I’d say you could go anywhere…but because a 3.5 is so low I’d say harvard and columbia are reaches. UPenn not as much.</p>

<p>UVa and JMU are fine.</p>

<p>Rice low reach</p>

<p>Harvard:high reach
Columbia:reach
UPenn: reach
Johns Hopkins: low reach
UChicago (EA): reach
Rice: high match
Brandeis: in
William and Mary (IS): im not too sure about the school
