Chance a B student for engineering!

I'm an average student with a moderate amount of APs (6 by the time I graduate). I'm going to be a senior next year. I live in CT Please chance me!!!

I'm definitely doing an engineering major. Either bioengineering or electrical engineering.
GPA- 3.36
SAT- 1920 (I'm retaking it in Sept. Hoping for 2100+)
SAT II- 670 Biology, 710 US History
Class Rank- 20% (in a class of ~320)
EC- 3 yrs youth symphony in Conn. College
4 music events
moderate volunteering hrs at local hospital
4 yrs tennis

I also want to go to a college with a known name. I hate it when you ask someone their college and they say a college you've never heard of. Then you're like "OHH yeah that college...

Temple U.
U. Connecticut
Rutgers U.
Penn State
U. of Pittsburgh
Drexel U.
Northeastern U.
U. of Maryland

Also, there are soo many SUNYs! I can't decide Which one do you recommend?

please chance me!

Are my schools too high?

Plz, not everyone here has a GPA of 4.0!!

I am from Philly and also looking into engineering, and also a B student so I will do my best.

Temple you will most definitely get in.
Drexel you will also get in, but it is a ridiculous amount of money. Your looking at what’s now 45k+ a year
Penn State if you were in-state you would have a decent shot, I’m not really sure about out of state.
Maryland my brother goes in there. UM has gotten within the past 4 years extremely tough to get into so I don’t think you will get in there with that low of a gpa, but it is possible if you play your cards right and boost up your SAT.
Pitt if you were in-state you would get in, don’t know about out of state though.
Northeastern is a maybe.
Uconn you’ll get in because you are in-state and your marks are good enough.
Don’t know about Rutgers

I dont think any of those are too reachy at all. Your GPA is going to keep you from getting merit aid though. You will definitely need a 2100+ on your retake to get merit aid.

Penn State and Pitt are very GPA driven. They really dont care if you took honors or AP classes. If you go to a reputable school, take all standard classes, get B’s and better in every class and do halfway decent on the SATs/ACTs, you get in. Your GPA is too low, but your SAT score is in range. You need to improve your score to have more confidence though.

dionte that’s not entirely true. My brother got denied from Penn State with a 3.3 and a 2190 on his SAT, he went to a reputable school and got Bs pretty much all of his high school with no Cs and a couple As. He also took plenty of honors and APs

That doesn’t make any sense at all. Penn State is the most popular college choice at my HS, and I know a significant amount of people who got in with 3.4-3.6 GPAs in standard classes and 1800-1900s on their SATs. Hell, my cousin got in (and attends) from a much worse HS, and I know for sure she didn’t get a 1900 on the SATs, because she’s not particularly intelligent.

Thats why I said entirely. The point of my post was merely to say that although he should have gotten in he didn’t. Which like you just stated, also holds true to the fact that many people get in places they should not. For example a very ignorant kid I know who does awful in most of his classes, somehow got into Brown. aStyle, you’ll be fine in most of those places don’t fret

I think that PSU, Pitt and Maryland will be tougher. Suny Buffalo is good for Engineering also. Best of luck!

BTW there is no SAT offered in September, but there is one in October.
