I'm planning on majoring in physics. I'm looking for a harsh/realistic chance.

SAT1: 2230 - 770M/720CR/740W
SAT2: taking after summer; expecting 750+ in math 2 and ush

uw GPA: 3.6 (yikes)
w GPA: sorry i forgot to check and zangle is down right now

EC/awards: editor for school newspaper ~ 3 years
Tennis 4 years ~ varsity 2 years
Badminton league at local community center (pretty much since middleschool)
2nd place opinion story from Best of Highschool Journalism
Anti-bullying society (officer)
Linguistics club (officer)
Mu Alpha Theta (2 years)
Math Club (4 years)
regular volunteer for Highschool Heroes (you teach at an elementary school classroom for a day)
Student mentoring program
national merit commended (hopefully semifinalist with 222)

So yeah i know there's nothing on my app that stands out but do I still have a competitive chance?

Edit: oh yeah and i go to a pretty competitive school so an exorbitant number of people apply each year (which sucks)

Shouldn’t you take SAT II Physics?

Batllo- Yeah I’ve been thinking really hard about that… But I realized that I would just be spending way too much time learning more than half the material because I’ve only taken the mechanics course. and i need to devote more time to math 2 and also the sat (hoping to break 2300)

You have a pretty good chance of getting in, imo. How are you doing compared to rest of your graduating class?

I mean, I got in with a 30 act and 3.9 UW/ 4.4 W gpa. In situation like this, I think your personal statements will be the most important aspect of your application.

your not below average?! what are you talking about, you are doing really well, esp. your SAT score…and your GPA isnt bad, it shows you work hard and its better because you go to a competitive school, i would say even though your GPA is good, it could be better, so get that up…also think you should take physics SAT II, it will look good if you do well

don’t bother getting a 2300+ if you aren’t going to take physics sat II when you are majoring in physics. even with just a mech background, a 670 is extremely plausible and 700+ is doable without killing yourself studying. make sure your uc gpa weighted is 4.1+ or you have low chances.
the application asks for
5 different awards/honors
5 extracurriculars
5 community service/ volunteer
- keep that in mind
+work experience, non a-g courses, third personal statement on anything etc.

YouSeeLuckyAce, i looked at your stats. Did you get into UCLA? And i will definitely consider your advice of taking sat physics

Yea, Im going to UCLA as an aerospace engineering major
