Chance a Biology major

Biology is competitive, I am also asian O_O.

GPA: 3.955 uw / 4.1364w
Class rank: 12 / 420 (top 3 %)
AP's: Government, CompSciA, CalcAB, US Hist(3), Literature(3)
SAT: 1780 (600m, 600cr, 580w, 8 essay) -not retaking
ACT: 27 (31m, 25e, 26r, 25s) -not retaking
Subject tests: Math 2 (~650), Biology (~600), Physics (~700)

-1st gen college student!
-medium-low income (50k for 4 people)

-Tennis all 4 years, last two years being varsity possibly co-captain this year
-Volunteered at surplus medical supply distributor (helps with major obviously)
-Presidential volunteering award; bronze level

You have a great unweighted GPA and nice class rank. Nice extracurriculars.
However, the UCs do not look at class rank. It is not asked for at all in your UC application. The only thing that class rank is somewhat used is for the ELC, which you have to be in the top 9%.

Your SAT and ACT are a bit low for UCSD. UCSD’s average SAT is a 1993, and yours is well below that. You should consider retaking it and aiming for 2000+!

Subject tests are alright. I like 650+, but 700+ is obviously better. (Good job on physics!)

To be honest, I feel like you don’t have great chances of being admitted. But who knows? Write a kick-ass essay and you could be admitted!!!

Your test scores are definitely a little low- you really should consider re-taking. As it stands, I think it is a reach with your current test scores.

My son is curently a freshman in college. He had almost the same stats as you (and very strong ec’s). He was rejected from UCSD (w/l at UCSB, UCD), accepted UCSC, UCI.

He’s a chem major (and hispanic) and attending Cal Poly SLO.
