Essays
- I would say they were very good. My common app essay was about the experiences I've gained from living in so many countries (Scotland, Norway, Canada, USA, Nigeria).

Teacher Recommendations
- Assuming excellent. Didn't read them, but both teachers really enjoyed having me in their classes, and are teachers that I speak with regularly at school (outside of the classroom).

Interviews
- Only one so far with Yale. It went extremely well, and the interviewer told me that I'd be an excellent fit at Yale and he hopes that I get in. He was an Asian applicant from Canada when he was admitted to Yale.

You will get in.

^^^Thanks, but what makes you say that? Can you elaborate a little please?

You’re a URM with above-average SAT scores for Cornell. You’ll get in easily.

^^^ That first sentence is true, but I’m a little skeptical because I’m an international student.

Well, if you need aid, that hurts your chances a little, but if not, the fact that you’re an international student probably doesn’t matter.

Yep you are getting in, EOD. URM with pretty solid credentials.

Nosike, 41% of Black students at Ivy League schools are international students:
[Study: Universities prefer foreign black students - The Daily Princetonian](http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/2007/03/07/17622/)

Therefore we can assume that an URM is an URM, regardless of one’s country of origin. You’re a shoo-in for Cornell. Congrats.

With a family income of $100K and Cornell at $50K, I assume he will need hefty financial aid. Even though the school is need-blind for US students, are they need-blind for international students, too?

I believe Cornell is need blind for all applicants, could be wrong. Yet, it doesn’t guarantee FA to internationals.

I just checked, and according to https://www.finaid.cornell.edu/finaid/upload/Financial-Aid-for-Undergraduate-International-Students.pdf</a>, admissions are need-blind for internationals. However, unlike American students, international students are not guaranteed financial aid.

I didn’t apply for financial aid btw. My dad has a way of paying for it outside of his income hehe.

that’s interesting… what do you mean by outside of his income haha
not that it’s my business, but savings?

^^^ Yeah something like that ;)

black?

automatic in bud

Can anyone give me an idea of what my chances would be considering I don’t get the URM boost? I’m really interested to know.

^

Without URM boost, you will still be a competitive applicant, yet by no means a guaranteed admit. With URM boost, you will almost certainly get in, unless you f’up your essay or something.

^^^ It’s amazing how big of a difference URM makes, from like low-reach to almost guaranteed acceptance.
