Chance a black kidd

Alright, I'm a first generation college student, black, come from a single parent low income family.

GPA:3.46(will probably increase this senior year)
TOP 10% of my class
SAT:1430(I BOMBED the test i know, and i was slightly sick that day. I'm studying intensely this summer, and will retake, I'm confident i could get a 1700+)

EC:
School newspaper
Student council
Senior executive commitee
African American club
Young Democrats
Mayor's Youth Summit(we arrange a annual youth summit with the mayor so kids can discuss issues affecting them)
And probably a few other EC's i forgot to mention.

I'm looking at:
Fairfield University (Percent applicants admitted: 59%)
Scared Heart university (Percent applicants admitted: 65%)
Fordham University (Percent applicants admitted: 47%)
Howard University (Percent applicants admitted: 49%)
Loyola Marymount University (Percent applicants admitted: 50%)
Lakeforest College (Percent applicants admitted: 59%)
Depaul university (Percent applicants admitted: 64%)

Any insight or guidance would be highly appreciated!

you have a good chance at all of them, you just have to increase that SAT score.Your rank and GPA are pretty good!
plz chance back

You might want to go to collegeboard.com, and use the “how do I stack up” feature. I’ll try to link Howard’s (Go Bison’s!) and Forham ( Go Bronx! )

thanks hvairline, and shrinkrap, i figure since my gpa is decent, and those schools tend to admit a high percent of applicants, i should be in the clear. What do u think?

So, when you say “in the clear”, you mean, will this be enough schools to apply to, in terms of "safeties’, “matches”, and “reaches”? I don’t know the answer, but that’s the way to think about it. I’m not sure if ANY of these are “safeties”.

Shrink, i didn’t necessarily mean as safeties, but rather as good matches i guess. But i did figure since they admitted percentage isn’t as high as selective colleges, i’d have a better chance of getting in.

Just make sure you have some “safeties”, financial and otherwise, as well as “matches” and "reaches’.
