GPA: roughly 3.7 UW, 3.98 W on 4.0 scale
Rigor: Taken some of the most challenging courses in the school. 6 Aps year long. 10 year long honors classes. One dual enroll math class at GA TECH

Rank: 55/433

ACT/SAT:
SAT super score: 800M 690R 740W essay(10)
ACT(only one sitting; should have taken it more): 33 comp, 31 read, 31 eng, 34 sci, 36 math

SAT subject tests(took these in October kinda last minute and I hadn't had any of these courses since may at the earliest. Don't know how much these are weighted):
Math 2: 710(didn't prepare and hadn't had lower level math classes in a very long time so i forgot alot of the stuff)
Physics: 720
U.S History: 700

Extracurrics: Lack luster I would say for the most part. I am the president of one of the largest clubs at our school that is similar to my major. I have some volunteering and some commitment to other clubs but nothing spectacular.
Recommendations: Average
Essays: I think they are very strong, but so does everyone

What are your guys opinion on me getting into Duke ED? Thanks for the help!

I would appreciate any college suggestions that you guys think would best fit my statistics. Thanks again if you help, I really appreciate your advice.

I think the rank and GPA is going to hurt you. And it’s never good to have “lackluster” EC’s. Your competition is a group of people who excel in all of these, and a majority of then stand out greatly. But even then, I believe it is 92% of Duke that is in the top 10% of their class? You’re already in that great minority.

That sucks to hear honestly. I took BC calc last year which destroyed my rank. I guess i have almost no chance of getting in. Thanks for your honest and polite answer so i will be a little less crushed come the release of decisions. Wish you the best!

I think you absolutely have a chance. You have a decent GPA, great test scores, and are applying ED. At a school like Duke everyone is a reach. Please let us know come 12/15 if you get in or not

I think you have a chance. Your GPA is fine, especially with the rigor of your schedule. You test scores are pretty average for Duke. Strong essays will be good, but like you said many people will. ECs will hurt you, like was said before. YOu ECs don’t sound terrible, but nothing seems to stand out. I think you have a decent shot, probably a low reach. Don’t be so pessimistic! I think you could get in!

I am applied ED as well http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1561842-chance-me-duke-ed-will-chance-back-within-24-hours.html#post16449634

Thanks for your opinions guys. Let me elaborate on my ECs so i can get opinions on how they actually are:

Beta club member

11th
Deca club officer- top 6 in club of over 130 students
Recycling club member
Toys for tots volunteer work
Deca competition: 2nd at region. 6th at state. Qualified for nationals but didnt go

12th:
Deca club president- top 1 in club of over 150 students
Recycling club officer
Toys for tots volunteer work

Let me guys know what you think.

You certainly have fewer ECs than many applicants, but the fact that you’ve committee to them over time is good. Hopefully you have leadership roles in these activities.

Also, while I do agree that you have a chance, you should check out Duke’s common data set. 57% of applicants have at least a 700 on the CR section of the SAT, and 92% of applicants are in the top 10% of their class. As neither of these apply to you, that may hurt your chances.

I got flat rejected if that helps anyone :)

you got rejected? Aw i’m sorry about that :(

even though you didn’t get accepted to Duke Im sure you’ll be happy at another college. try to make the best out of the next 4 years of your life! Best of luck to you
