I'm considering majoring in some type of Engineering (probably Chemical or Biomedical) at:
Stanford
Cornell
Northwestern
Duke

Please give me your thoughts and I'll chance you back!

Hmm. Stanford may be outta reach, but not completely. I’d say they’re all toss ups. It’s tough to tell. Admissions, it’s a funny thing. Good luck man!

You stats show you’re really smart, but I think you should add a safety school to the list in case you get rejected at those schools–I doubt that though.

I think you’ll definitely get in to one or more of those schools, but you should definitely apply to a safety that you wouldn’t mind attending as well.

My opinion:

Stanford: 20% chance (its hard for anyone)
Northwestern: 75% chance
Duke: 60% chance
Cornell: 60% chance

By the way, nice 36 ACT science score! Don’t see that too often.

Agree with everyone that you have solid chances for all of these schools. As for safeties, how about Michigan and Purdue (which has a very good eng’g program and a place with which you are familiar). Other ideas, Georgia Tech, Harvey Mudd, Carnegie Mellon, and Case Western (where you might get a lot of money). Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback so far! I guess I should have mentioned that I have been accepted to UMich, Purdue, Case, Cincinnati, Rose-Hulman, and Georgia Tech. I was also deferred from MIT (not surprisingly). I created this thread to see where I stand with my RD schools.

Soaroneagles - If you provide a link to your chance thread I will happily chance you, but without the link I have no idea what thread you want me to chance you on!

If that’s only 100 total hours of community service, that’s not too great. Also, if your school lets you take more than 6-10 AP classes in your curriculum throughout the four years, that would show that you don’t really reach out. Those are the only two flaws i can possibly think of :). Look at that unweighted GPA! Is that for real?
Okay, to chances.
Stanford is a mid-reach (it is for everyone)
Cornell is a match
Northwestern is a match
Duke is a match
I predict a 2 or 3 out of 4 acceptance rate. Good luck!

I have taken or am taking every AP class that my school offers. I have definitely taken the most rigorous schedule possible at my school. I also have a bunch of random volunteer hours that I didn’t feel like listing here, but I would estimate that I have nearly 200 hours. I have taken the SAT II Math II so many times that I have just given up haha…I have impeccable grades in math and a 32 on the ACT in math and if that’s not good enough, then oh well…

Anyways, thanks again for all of the input so far!

That’s okay, obviously math isn’t for everybody, and colleges will understand as you’re not majoring in it :). And if you’ve taken the hardest curriculum possible, then make cornell and northwestern practically in already.

Your ACT is great across the board and it looks like you’ve taken a good AP course-load. Also, valedictorian is a definite plus and your EC’s are good (not excellent, you don’t have very many leadership positions as far as I can tell). I think you make up for that with a good sports background.

Stanford will be a definite high reach. I think Duke and NW are matches. I would say you have a fair chance at Cornell.

You stand a better chance at Stanford than some of your compatriots, given valedictorian + sports background. (Kiss that leg up goodbye if you’re asian.) That being said, only Calc AB senior year + 670 Math II will put you at a disadvantage with MIT (you’re probably gonna get rejected their ultimately). Duke and Cornell, alright/somewhat good chances. Scores could be better and more leadership would be nice. In at Northwestern.
