Chance a Canadian for Brown University (ED)

Asian Male (Canadian):
SAT I: 2340
SAT II: 800 Chem, 800 Math II, 800 Korean
GPA: 39/45 (IB) or 93/100 ish UW; top 10%

No major awards; just some school awards, duke of edin (bronze), math awards, etc.

EC's:
-Model United Nations (few non-major awards, director at a major conference, head delegate/coordinator) 3 years
-Interact Club (Exec/Chair) 4 years
-Hospital (team leader, musician) ~300 hours/3 years
-orchestra ~500 hours/4years
-Martial art (assistant instructor, 2nd degree black) ~500 hours/7 years

Minor EC's such as other misc. position in different clubs, summer leadership programs (national) + scholarships, volunteer in math, science clubs, library, hospice, etc.

I'm also applying to Columbia, Upenn, Cornell, JHU and UCB. It would be great if you guys could chance me on that also and comment on my GPA and IB marks, which I'm not sure if it's adequate or lacking.
It's been a struggle to gauge my prospect since all the stats seem to be in American 4.0 GPA system.
How is 93% UW in full IB considered?

Also, how much are internationals at disadvantage compared to domestic candidates?

tough, but it may work

Bumpity bump

All I see here is a high SAT score. IB not very strong, we don’t know where you are in the top 10% and no stand out EC. As an ORM from a country sending lots of applicants, it’s a major reach.

@Waverly: Thanks for the feedback. Would you say JHU and UCB are also major reaches? Also, what would be a competitive IB score? I feel I can raise the current score for the midterm report.

No, you should easily get into UCB, your scores are off the charts there and they don’t care much about rank. As long as you can pay the $50K plus, I think you’re easily in there. Decent chance at JHU.

For Brown it’s not just about raising the IB score, though a 43+ would certainly be a plus, you really do need an impressive EC. Sub 9% acceptance (as opposed to Berkeley’s 20+), really requires a stand out EC with no hook.

I see. I already knew how competitive it would be to strive for an Ivy school, but I thought my SAT’s and rigorous curriculum at least put me in equal footing.

And for EC, I did not list much in order to be succinct and to remain relatively anonymous. But I do agree; there isn’t much standing out.

And about hooks, would having a low-income single parent help me out?

The low won’t help as an international. In fact it will hurt a great deal at Brown which has relatively little money, or n ivy, for internationals.

You’re not understanding the basics of what ivies look for: highest rank+highest SAT+hardest classes+stand out EC. They have way too many with all of this to take the vast majority.

Bump. Any more chances?

your sats are definitely strong, and your gpa is within the range for most top schools. your ecs dont seem to very strong though and that could be a problem. all in all if you have some leadership positions in MUN or awards in speaking that could help a lot.

chance me back?
