I am worried about my chances of being accepted into Goizueta as a transfer. I have 7 w's (due to a crisis in the beginning of my cc career), but have since then picked it up and gotten straight A's. Currently I have a 3.8 GPA with phenomenal EC's. I am worried about my schedule though as it has not been extremely tough other than taking 3 quantitative classes in the summer and getting all A's. If you guys could chance me I would greatly appreciate it.

Oh, sorry, I really have no clue about the likelyhood of getting in as a transfer from a community college. I would think that it would also depend on your SAT scores but I don’t believe that Emory takes many transfers into the business school. Why don’t you ask this at the transfer forum?

Accounting credit won’t does not transfer here. You have to fulfill the pre-reqs of the program, and your CCC GPA won’t transfer here. You apply to Emory College, and then after your prereqs are complete, you apply to the bschool. They look at your Emory GPA. Good luck!

Are all of those "W"s withdrawals? If so, I would be very concerned about those to be honest. One or two Ws are generally fine but anything more than that and schools start wondering if you were having trouble with the classes…

I don’t know how representative I am of the students that they accept but I transferred to Emory from community college, my stats when I transferred were:

GPA: 4.0, graduated w/ honors as valedictorian
SAT: 2100
No withdrawals, largely honors curricula. Took math up through Honors Calc before transferring.
Phi Theta Kappa

Honors Student Government President
2-year Honors Student Rep for my State Honors Association
Phi Theta Kappa Officer

All of this being said, the number of CC students that they take is somewhat low. Most transfers seem to transfer in as Sophomores from other elite 4-year schools. But, it is possible.

thanks for responding! They seem to have a 33% transfer acceptance rate. Most of those W’s were due to a huge crisis throughout my CC career. Although I have many W’s, I feel like my EC’s trump most applicants. Do you think they will heavily consider that?

I think they will definitely be considering your ECs, but remember that this is an academically focused school. Nothing will be more important than the fact that they feel like you took a rigorous enough curriculum at your CC to prove that you can handle the workload here. Make sure you write a very compelling explanation for those Ws.

As far as the 33% acceptance rate goes: again, most of those are transfers from other 4 year schools. Their CC acceptance rate it much lower. I think in my transfer class there were maybe half a dozen students out of about 200 that came from CC after completing their associates.

I’m not saying don’t apply - do. But just make sure that you understand what those numbers are telling you.
