Chance a confused rising senior PLEASE!!

I go to a brand new high school Class of 2013 will be the first graduating class. I plan on majoring in Chemical Engineering. I would like to get out of Texas but do I have a chance at these schools.
So far my list consists of:

UT Austin (practically everybody at my school plans on applying here - safety) in-state
Texas A&M (safety) in-state
Rice
Columbia
Cornell
UPenn

ACT: 31C 34R 26E 30S 32M

- Tutor at church in math and science (Junior Summer)
- Ventures Scholar

Hook:
Black Female Engineer :)

Do I have a chance at any of those schools? Should i retake the ACT or SAT or should i take Subject Tests? Any other schools you would suggest?

Thanks for taking the time out to chance me?

Bumpppppppp. Anyone? Anything?

Stats:
GPA: I converted your GPA to a 4.0 scale, and according to the conversion I used, you have a 3.57 GPA. This is not very good. Especially if you are in the first graduating class of your school. Usually, since new schools don’t have a reputation, the GPA usually indicates enrollment in some of the easier classes. Although, you did get 5 on AP World which will help.

SAT: Your SAT is low. Especially your Math score. If you want to be an engineer when you grow up, a lot of schools will be expecting more. Also, if you got such a low score on CR, you likely got a 3 or 4 on AP Eng Lang. You really must retake SAT.
Also, to answer your question about SAT Subject tests, you have to take those too. Ivies like Cornell and Columbia require 2 SAT Subject tests and in order to be competitive for admissions, they will be expecting 750+ (Especially since you already got a 5 on an AP test) You need to study study study.

ECs
Right off the bat I see a major problem. You were on student counsel two years and quit both times. You need to suppress that on your application. If schools find out that you quit rather than take charge and help get something done, they will almost surely reject you in an instant. Not because you have not good enough ECs, but simply because of the attitude displayed when you quit (TWICE). Also going through your list, there are a few other things that should not be on there. 1. Enviro Club, if you didn’t start one the year you transferred, you obviously don’t care enough about it ergo it’s not relevant to tell colleges about 2. A lot of stuff on your list doesn’t have any context and will be ignored by college reps unless you can elaborate (specifically, the “made a 1 in solo” and “PLTW” <- this might just be because you abbreviated. and some people, like myself, might not know the acronym you are using. Also things like NHS committee have no context. I have no idea what was accomplished and neither will a college admissions officer) 3. something with “probably” in front of it is not worth mentioning until you are absolutely certain. there is absolutely no way of knowing if you got that award or not and it would make a very big difference in your situation.

Also, your ECs don’t seem to follow your desire to be an engineer. They seem very generic which really detriments your application. From your profile, I can’t get a good vision of your personality and what you like to do with your time.

I’ll be honest here, you probably won’t get into any of the privates you listed. I don’t know about publics so I can’t help you there.

I think you should look at some easier schools to get into. For you, I would say that some good match schools would be UMD CP, UC Davis, UUtah, SCU, UMA, Penn State, etc. It’s possible that, with a lot of work on SATs and GPA, you could get into UCLA or a comparable school.

It will take a lot of work to get into a good school from your position, but if you put nose to the books, it is definitely possible!
Good luck!

Chance me back?

I should’ve been more specific the 106 is my weighted GPA and rank 1 has a GPA of 111. My UW is probably 3.9+. I only got 1 B freshmen year in Biology. PLTW is Project Lead The Way which is a engineering class that gives students college credit for certain schools such as Duke and RIT. Is my ACT math score any better I’ll probably retake that so I can take subject tests then. Student council did some environmental stuff which is why I joined but it became a joke and I didn’t want to be part of an organization like that. I got a 5 on both my mock exams for APUSH and AP Lang. I’m really invested in church and choir when it comes to ECs.

Thanks quintamonious for your response. Anyone else?

To ulovetoy. Dnt mind what he is saying you said 106 out of 120 i calculated and i came around an 88. Tht is very good, he calculated a 3.5 gpa when moved to Georgia i had an 3.5 nd my counseler said that was a very good GPA. Plus your SAT IS FINE. You scored a 2090 out of a 2400 is an 87. Dnt let anyone discourage you you can go to any college you want to if you put your mind to it you can do anything.

Plus the outside activity is excellent and the in school activity is as well. You dont have to take anything over them grades are fine. Colleges dont just look at your SAT ACT scores nd decide if youll go there. I called the college i want to attend nd they said they look at the SAT and ACT scores last. The look at rigor which are grades in school GPA nd 2nd at school activities like volunteer intern or what you participate in in school. Nd lastly the SAT ACT scores.

Good luck

Thanks Abbie that raises my hopes.

UT Austin - In
Texas A&M (safety) - In
Rice - Low reach
Columbia - High reach
Cornell - Low reach
UPenn - High Reach

I don’t mean to sound negative, but you a bunch of ivy league schools, which are reaches for a lot of people.

Chance me back, please.
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1357944-chance-me-nyu-cornell-miami-more.html

That is fine. It really had me mad when he/she said you should take the SAT over because that score is excellent. Plus he said the GPA wasnt good that is an excellent GPA youvshould probably just try to get that up to 4.0 though. Lol that would be excellent let me tell you something, you are killing it you are doing excellent those scores are on point. I never seen that many AP classes in my life im only taking 1AP class nxt yr. but all accellerated. Im interning at an animal hospital. And i was in many things thiss year until i moved back to GA. My ACT nd SAT scores are horrible.i am dissappointed in myself. GPA is a 2.6 it went down from a 3.5 bcuss i moved and failed some of my EOCTs end of course test. But i am officially a senior. c/o 2013. Im going to work my bootay off lol this year. Nd im taking the SAT nd ACT over hopefully to score higher.

Wish me luck

@Octobersky98 I know I have a bunch of ivies. I just don’t know any good publics that I could get into with good engineering programs. Any suggestions?
