<p>I’m in the same boat as you. Deferred from JHU! Honestly, I don’t see how you weren’t accepted in the first place. In my opinion you’ll be fine, but never trust CC. I was told I was going to be flat out rejected and my interview is this Saturday after being deferred. Don’t take into account what anyone says one here too seriously. Just my thoughts and good luck.</p>
<p>Honestly, there is nothing you can do at this point other than not obsess about it. Admissions knows that Hopkins is your first choice since you applied early. The fact that you were deferred and not declined is clear evidence that you are qualified and that the Committee believes that you “are in the running” for the RD pool. The problem is not you, but the fact that there are many more well-qualified applicants than there are spots for. Any school where the acceptance rate is less than 20% means that luck and other factors beyond your control are going to play a significant role in admissions decisions. For example, if you resided in North Dakata as opposed to Maryland, you probably would have been accepted ED. But there is nothing you can do about that. The best you can do is to apply to a number of schools where you would expect to be happy—thus increasing the odds of being admitted to at least one of them. Hopefully,you’ve already done that. Otherwise, take a deep breadth, try to relax, and think about something else. Or, if you are so inclined, a prayer once in a while wouldn’t hurt. Good luck!</p>
<p>I’m a little surprised you got deferred since you have similar stats as me (a little bit lower GPA and SAT, but you have more EC’s/work exp)… honestly, just work really hard to get your GPA up a little and get all A’s your senior year. Other than that, I think Hopkins will see you as a strong candidate and you will likely be accepted.</p>
<p>I don’t know anything about JHU requirement. Just by looking at the stats you posted. My guess is because your SAT is not high enough and you don’t have any 5 for APs. However, you are still in deferred group, which means even though you are not outstanding for them to accept you as ED, you are still good for compete against RD.</p>
<p>What you can do? Maybe focus on your academic and pull your grades higher. After all, the main job for high school students is to study. The EC is called “extra” for a reason. </p>
<p>Thanks so much for everyone’s feedback! I have been focusing A LOT of school this year, and managed to pull 6 As and 1 B first semester (3.85 UW GPA) with 5 AP classes. Do you think this will help much?
And I explained in my app that my overall G PA should be 3.86 instead of 3.76, but because of transferring issues when I switched schools not all my credits were moved, and therefore lowered my GPA.

<p>Does anyone have any advice for my cover letter? I plan on focusing on how I can bring diversity to the school (international exposure, 1st generation to be born in US, deafness, down syndrome, etc). Thoughts?</p>
<p>Starzz…Did I miss something? Are you deaf, or born with Down’s Syndrome? If not, maybe you should stick to why they should admit you. Here is my advice:</p>
<ol>
<li><p>What is up with no SAT II’s? You dont have AP’s (5’s)to fall back on, so missing that does not even out your transcript well. Any chance you will report those SAT II’s in the immediate future? If so, make sure you note that.</p></li>
<li><p>Write a nice, matter of fact, letter about why JHU, what you hope to gain from admission, what you hope to do with your life. Be grateful for being deferred, and discuss your grade trends. Do not make excuses. State plainly that you have taken (in your senior year) the most rigorous class load you could, and how you expect these classes to help you towards life goals (Not: “See what I did in order to get accepted”) show your love of learning, your hard work ethic.</p></li>
<li><p>Once you write, edit, and send that letter, forget about JHU. Think about other schools you applied to, and try to fall in love with the idea that you might not get in. Enjoy your senior year, and know that no matter where you end up, you will end up exactly where you belong.</p></li>

<p>Thanks so much for your advice! Sorry, when i said “down syndrome” and “deafness” i meant there was down syndrome and deafness in my family, not that I had those conditions. </p>
<p>And yes, my SAT 2 scores will be sent to JHU for RD, i know that was one of my main weaknesses with my ED application. </p>

<p>I agree with Imontoya… your SAT’s are fine (I know people with lower) and your GPA is alright. Additionally, you look like you have good EC’s to carry you. Just write them a letter thanking them for giving you a second chance to get accepted and say why you think you’d be the perfect fit. Don’t make it too long though- remember a ton of people will probably be writing letters.</p>

<p>If you send them in on time, then I think it could only help. If you have an extra ECs, that could help too I don’t know, but was there a deadline for deferred applicants to send things in? I sent my letter of continued interest on Thursday and I hope its not too late. Was there a deadline for deferred applicant materials?</p>
