Also, my ACT essay was rather low. However my SAT essay was relatively high. Will colleges acknowledge that I am still a strong writer. The ACT prompt was about using GPS tracking on children. It was not very "writer-friendly" in my perspective. Do colleges focus heavily upon the ACT essay score? Also, should I submit both tests or just one of them? Thank you

I think you have a great chance. I would be shocked if you weren’t admitted. A key to being admitted to honors is to write a great essay that explains in detail what you are looking for and what you would bring to the program. Good luck!

hey, im going to be a freshman in UD’s honors program this fall, and you’re a lot like me. i got 1990/2400 on my SATS (cr/m/w=640/670/680). i was in the top 1% of my class of around 630 kids. almost all schools on the east coast favor SATs over ACT (although they will take whichever). and colleges always look at the best score, whether that be on the SAT or ACT. you’ll looking good so far, just make sure you take a challenging course load senior year & don’t let senioritis affect your grades! haha

My D will be an Honor’s Program freshman this fall at UD. She has a similar profile to yours but with slightly better SATs (2200) and ACTs (32). You are not that far off from her, but I would not call you a shoo in for Honors. I would take both tests one more time and prep the heck out of the one of them. You can look up where you fall in the percentile ranges for both tests. Wikipedia says that you are at the 93% for SAT and 96% for ACT. I would confirm that and if it is true, then I would focus on the ACT. If you can get it up to a 32 composite, that would put you in the 99th percentile. At that point most schools will be really interested in you and many will offer you significant merit aid. As a reference, my daughter’s merit scholarships ranged from $12-$25K per year. Being a boy is in your favor too. Also make sure you visit UD and feel free to contact the Honors Program folks. They are very personable and will answer your questions. Letting them know that you want to be there is very important. Also, write killer essays. Do not sound like everyone else. Anyhow, we are extremely impressed with UD. My daughter turned down William & Mary, NYU, Richmond, Wake Forest and a bunch of others to go there. Good luck. BTW, I was extremely impressed with University of Maryland’s Honors College too. You might want to check that out. Good luck.

I would say you have an exceptional chance. Your act, class rank, and ec’s all look solid so just finish it with a good essay (show them your not a 6 as the ACT suggests) and I think you’ll make it judging by stats of who they have accepted in the past. I’ll being applying this year too so I’m no expert on these matters… but hey maybe we’ll be classmates!.. If I get in of course haha
