My dream colleges are Princeton and Yale, but my GPA and SAT are a bit ehhhh so those are far far far reaches. Otherwise, please chance me for Ivies, or tell me what would be my matches/reaches. Oh, and merry Christmas! Thanks :]
I would like to go to a school with a nice math/engineering program too. At least, I plan on getting a major in math, and going in to some engineering field.

- Also applying for TASP and Simons

I thought qualifying score on the AMC12 was a 100? or is that just for my area?

Was your Mat SATII math1 or math2, it makes a big difference.

There’s an AP multivariable calculus? I don’t think there’s any AP exam, so there can’t be a course.

I see you’re applying to Simons (which I’m applying to as well, I do research too in comp sci). If you don’t mind my asking, what is your district? I know some districts are more competitive than others. I go to Half Hollow Hills if you know it.

Also, you’re not a desperate junior lol XD you’re really good. You’ve got great qualifications. If you think you’re up to it, retake the AP stat exam and go for a 5, that’ll help a lot.
PSAT looking good, your SAT actually isn’t bad. You could improve your chance by getting higher, but having your current score wouldn’t rule you out. You’re very good, very qualified. I’d give you a high chance of getting in, but I could use that extra info.
If I were to give a percent it would be roughly 30-45% right now, without the other info and without the improved SAT.
If you do accomplish research stuff it looks REALLY good. Even though it’s a bit late, you could try to apply to RSI. It’s a great summer program for research up at MIT, highly selective. The application is due really soon though. look it up if you’re interested.

It is at most 100 every year, but that year it was 97.5 for that particular test.

SAT II

There’s no AP exam, but one of our teachers organized the class with the local state university to offer the class.

I’m in the Three Village district! And yes, I have heard of Half Hollow Hills! You guys are gooood…

I did actually get a 5 hahaha that was a typo!

and thanks for the info! I’ll chance be sure the chance back later on tonight; I have to go someplace now, but thank you! I really appreciate it :]

oh I’ve been to Three Village, you guys have a pretty nice district. And Half Hollow Hills is nice, we’ve got a great research program (which I am proud to say I participate in), but we’ve been blacklisted by a ton of schools. Our entire district is blacklisted by Georgetown because 7 students broke the ED contract in the same year when they had it. And we’re temporarily blacklisted by Northeastern because they accepted more than 20 kids one year and none of them went because they used Northeastern as a safety school. So now nobody gets into either of those schools.

I’m a junior too. So I’m just doing this stuff based on what I see happen with friends of mine. You’re definitely very qualified for Princeton, I can’t say for Yale because it seems like more of a crapshoot than the other Ivies. I had a friend get accepted to every single school she applied to except yale (she’s at harvard now) because they had the idea for some reason that they were her safety school. But yeah, you’re definitely on the right track =)

I’m pretty sure you have a great chance at the ivies. Your scores are already great but I think all you would need to do testing wise would be to raise your critical reading above a 750. Unfortunately Asians are expected to have higher scores in general. In the process of doing that though, I would start thinking about essay topics because that will be the main deciding factor that will separate yourself from other high scoring asians. I recommend reading On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld. It’s very helpful. Also, I think it’s cool that you are in the AWANA program because I participated in it since I was three and eventually became a game leader. What do you do in it?

I would hesitate to call your multivariable class AP, because (regardless of the level of that class) AP Multivariable doesn’t exist. Besides that little questionable bit, this resume is exceptionally impressive; better than mine, anyway! I would just recommend that you not get too vested in whether you’re admitted to an Ivy, because their admissions are, at times, so very schizophrenic. Regardless, you have at least a fair shot at any college (even with your “disappointing” SAT score). Congratulations on your qualifications, and best of luck!

Soaroneagles - I’ve been in the program since I was eight! I’m currently a Sparkies leader; I help them with their verses and sign stuff :] I’m not loud enough to be a game leader haha
Thanks for the tip about the book, I’ll definitely check it out!
hkobb7 - What do you suggest I call the multivariable class? I never thought of that; thanks for bringing that up. (since it’s AP weight on our GPA, we all call it AP haha)

Chill the **** out, chancing won’t change the outcome.

Enjoy high school, but keep your grades up.

You’ll be fine. You’ll get into somewhere excellent. Don’t stress out.

2nd place team in HMMT?
Top 3% in your class?
Dude, you’re golden.
Get that SAT score up to >2300, and you’re almost guaranteed (even though your current score isn’t too shabby)

Your stats are stellar. The only thing that might hurt you is that I assume you go to a very competitive high school in, say, new jersey or california, based on the courses offered. The competition between you and the other top 3% of your school could be difficult, but that’s just a guess.

You have great stats, but Princeton and Yale are reaches for anyone. Looking at your “numbers,” I don’t see much focus. You definitely have the breadth, but not the depth. And you’re Asian, like me, which doesn’t help the whole “unique” factor, unfortunately.
