Anyone please

You would probably bet more responses with better “chances” if this was in the University of Florida forum.

Dude find the university of Florida threads. This is university of TEXAS.

LOL im from florida and i wanna go to University of Texas probs. umm well i didnt apply to UF since i want to go out oos but personally 3.5 is kind of low so u might wanna check up on ur stats. I have no clue on the out of state because i think they consider it different , and by the way i hope u applied earlier like oct, before nov. since thats when most of my classmates applied

I am is dirty I meant to say university if texas at Austin

Everyone please disregard the florida part it us supposed to be Austin I am so sorry

Your weighted GPA doesn’t really matter, they only take into account UW. The GPA and test scores are gonna be where you struggle, especially because your rank isn’t quite top 7% so you don’t qualify for auto admit and the applicant pool for non auto admit is extremely competitive. I feel like it’s a bit of a reach for you, but since you’re a Texas resident, even if they don’t offer you admission this year they should allow you to do the CAP program. So if it really is your dream school and you don’t get in, maybe you could consider doing the transfer via the CAP program.

I don’t think you need to feel scared or desperate. They offer the CAP program to everyone in state. I on the other hand, am OOS, and OOS kids don’t get that option… :/

I don’t know if I can afford (monetary wise) a cap program. Thank you so much. Also someone told me I have affirmative action idk what that is, and that it hurts me getting in. What is aa.

Do you know what the CAP program is? If you can’t afford the other schools in the CAP program you probably won’t be able to afford UT either… The CAP program stands for Coordinated Admissions Program, which allows you to spend your freshman year at one of the other University of Texas system schools, and once you earn the required number of credits for your freshman year, you are guaranteed admission to UT Austin.

In terms of affirmative action, it’s not just you who “has” affirmative action. Affirmative action is basically a policy intended to take race, gender, national origin, etc. into account in attempts to ensure everyone is treated equally. As far as I can tell, the only people who do not benefit from affirmative action are white males (because they are neither race-based nor sex-based minorities) and SUPPOSEDLY asians, because “the standard is higher” for asian students. I hope that’s not true because obviously that would be super unfair.

I don’t think affirmative action really HURTS anyone. But considering that you are a racial minority, and that AA was initiated in attempts to eliminate discrimination toward minorities, I think you should be fine.

Oh ok thank you what I meant was paying to go to another ut school then transfer that would be extra money plus the fact about ut price. Thank you very much

I don’t think there are any additional costs for transferring… You also might be more likely to receive financial aid or scholarships at a different UT system school.

135pipe

With ACT 25 you will most likely not get any scholarships from UT Austin or any OOS university (Florida included), and with parent income 50,000-60,000 and EFC almost 5,000 you will most likely not get any grants.
You need to wait till the middle - end of March to see all your finaid packages, but I can predict right now that any OOS college, especially public, would be financially unaffordable. UT might be full pay, if you are accepted (you might since you are AA). Your financial safeties (colleges where you can get scholarships) might be lower ranking IN STATE universities where ACT 25 is above average.

ewtoast
Where did you get the idea that CAP is offered to EVERYONE who is in state?

My bad yaya, I read somewhere that CAP is offered to all in-state applicants but evidently that info was wrong. Which makes sense because that would’ve been insane.

I’ve read the same info somewhere on the UT website. It must be outdated.

Thank you guys for taking the time to do this

I thought CAP is indeed offered to all Texas applicants!!! Are you sure it’s not?

Yes, I am pretty sure. “Offered to all Texas applicants” means open enrollment. UT doesn’t have open enrollment.

I checked CAP page and, unfortunately, did not find any explanation, so I can just describe how I understand it.

It has something to do with top 10% law. UT Austin doesn’t automatically admit top 10% as other Texas public universities, this year it’s 7%. So to accommodate students in the top 7-10% of the class ACCORDING TO STATE LAW UT Austin offers CAP program. There is no law to accommodate top 11, or 15, or 25%. These students can go through holistic review, but state doesn’t guarantee anything to them. Top 10% has a guaranteed admission, directly or through CAP.
