Chance a desperate Mexican, please?

Stats:
GPA: 3.6
SATs: 1520
Rank is about 70 out 700
Last grades were horrible due to several personal problems, etc:
AP Span. A
Criminal J. A & C (two periods, but I don't know if this one is correct because it is supposed to be only one grade)
AP Stats C (the worst grade I have ever got in Math or any other subject; I missed a lot of classes and the tests are not my thing as you can see with SATs, it is also because of my English, which is not the best)
AP Gov B
AP Lit B
AP Macro B
AVID 12 B (She doesn't like me too much; I don't like her neither) =)

Okay, I have in USA for two years now and I want to know if I will qualify for top ranked schools or other average schools. This is the first year I take AP classes because in my school I was an EL (english learner) student and we are not allowed to take these classes.
My junior and sophomore years were really messed up; I have low level classes that I took in Mexico in previous years (I had almost every A, except for computers 1, because the teacher was always peaking on me for being latino, so I didn't maintain my mouth closed (big mistake.)) As you can see I have had a lot of teachers that don't like latinos too much, even though we are the majority in the school. Well, I took advanced classes in my freshman such as physics, chemistry, trigonometry, etc, but in my sophomore the school place me in geometry and earth sciences.

I have won some diplomas and recognitions from my teachers. I play ten instruments at a semi-professional level (some less than that, but I can play them); I play pretty well the guitar and it is my favorite instrument. I played in international concerts (but I only played in Mexico because my mother didn't want me to go too far and most of the time we didn't have money.) My mom was a judge in Michoacan but she rennounced to come with us (my brother and I.) My dad has worked in different jobs during the last 20 years. He has been in the USA all these years, but he visited us constantly. He is now an insurance sales agent and he has a little photography business in which I help a lot (i have nearly 1000 hrs in photography here and Mexico and as an office clerk.) I also have a lot of community service with 700 hrs or more with my church and the migrant program of my sector. And I play in the varsity soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams in my freshman. I haven't played in varsity in fresno, but I play soccer in out-of-school-teams; I was the champion in one of the two I played with and we won the championship of our leage.

I know my chances will be poor due to my stats, but i wanted to know if the schools to were I am applying will look at my history and decide based on this. I am not the best test taker, actually I suck at this. However, I have knowledge in all subjects; specially my language and law and music. I am a questbridge finalist and my last two summers have been in summer school and two leadership camps.

Schools:
Bowdoin
American U.
Hampshire C.
Amherst
UMass Amherst
UCB, UCD, UCSB, UCI
Boston U.
Hawaii Pacific U.
Fordham
Providence
Santa Clara
Pepperdine.

I would the most thankful man (young man) on Earth if you help me. I can't sleep at night, and I just recently had an opperation which keep me more awake. Please. =)
Oh. I want to major in Spanish, foreign languages, political science or any law-related subject. I have heard that if you declare a major that is less popular than others you have more chances, Is it true?

My honest opinion is that all the schools will give you a look but are going to be worried you cant handle the coursework. You will add dimension to the schools but somehow convey why you will be able to go to a top school n handlw it. Your grades n test scores rnt up to par soIm not sure if your gret background can get u in.

American U - match
Amherst - reach
UCB - reach
UCD - low reach
UCSB - low reach
UCI - low reach
Boston U. - high match
Santa Clara - match
Pepperdine - high match

Thank you for the comments.
@Wowie: I was thinking the same thing. But I will explain that first I work a lot with my dad (usually 40 hrs a week) and also do community service and that I have been very distracted due to personal problems (my parents fight a lot because of the economic situation and they almost divorced twice.) I have miss some classes several times and almost all the ones that I missed the most is were I have bad grades Stats, Macro, AVID and one of the Criminal Justice classes.) I am dedicated as anyone can possibly be and this is true (there was one time I stay one week without sleeping to finish a video and all the photos for an event while my dad was in Mexico.) It was during school. =)
Thank you again.
@zebcast: with high match you mean low reach. can you do it in percentages please. Because I used the same terms but sometimes people use them diff. Thank you.

Also, do you think if I put my major in Spanish (one of my top choices) I will have better chances? Well the UCs are gone for me (almost) but what about the others?

anyone??
Please.

I am also latino. I don’t recommend you put Spanish, because sadly every latino in college majors in Spanish. Try to let the colleges know that you are going through some personal problems now, so you can properly justigy the drops in your grades. To be honest with you i think you could get in to all your schools. I would recommend adding a super reach such as a Rice or Vanderbuilt to see what happens good luck

Mmm. Thank you for the advice. And what do you think about foreigh languages? or International Relations? I ask this because I want to study some law related subject, but I want to get first into college, and I thought you could do that (put a major that is not so popular) to get in.
Wow, thank you. I’m actually trying Stanford and Rice, but I think Rice asks for the SAT II also and I didn’t do good on those neither. I hate that I can’t neither read quickly nor understand every word. =(
I’ll see about Vanderbilt. Thanks again.

anyone??? please…

Can anyone chance me??

hi! i have the same situation.I’m Dominican and studied freshman and sophomore year in the Dominican Republic. My GPA is TERRIBLE!! 2.6 because of the ELL classes. I started taking Honor course on my senior year also!! for the same reasons as yours. I knew that I had to show more interest, so I sent an E-mail to the admissions officers and asked for interviews!! I explained my situation and they said that they will calculate my GPA again. I am confident. You have to be confident too!! send e-mails! show that you want to study there!!! ask for phone interviews! do anything possible in earth to demonstrate that you are not another applicant!!! and explain your situation! do it now, before it is too late. go to college board, click on your college then on “at a glance” and the e-mail address is to the right on a little square. an admission officer will reply! good luck!!

I applied to:
holy cross
northeastern
emmanuel college
wheelock
providence college
assumption c.
university of rhode island
suffolk U.

Bowdoin and Amherst are definitely high reaches.

Boston university is a low reach. I don’t know much about the other schools.

Don’t think majoring in Spanish will necessarily help you (there are a lot of Spanish speakers).

Chance me if you have time!
