Stats:
GPA: 3.6
SATs: 1520
Rank is about 70 out 700
Last grades were horrible due to several personal problems, etc:
AP Span. A
Criminal J. A & C (two periods, but I don't know if this one is correct because it is supposed to be only one grade)
AP Stats C (the worst grade I have ever got in Math or any other subject; I missed a lot of classes and the tests are not my thing as you can see with SATs, it is also because of my English, which is not the best)
AP Gov B
AP Lit B
AP Macro B
AVID 12 B (She doesn't like me too much; I don't like her neither) =)

Okay, I have in USA for two years now and I want to know if I will qualify for top ranked schools or other average schools. This is the first year I take AP classes because in my school I was an EL (english learner) student and we are not allowed to take these classes.
My junior and sophomore years were really messed up; I have low level classes that I took in Mexico in previous years (I had almost every A, except for computers 1, because the teacher was always peaking on me for being latino, so I didn't maintain my mouth closed (big mistake.)) As you can see I have had a lot of teachers that don't like latinos too much, even though we are the majority in the school. Well, I took advanced classes in my freshman such as physics, chemistry, trigonometry, etc, but in my sophomore the school place me in geometry and earth sciences.

I have won some diplomas and recognitions from my teachers. I play ten instruments at a semi-professional level (some less than that, but I can play them); I play pretty well the guitar and it is my favorite instrument. I played in international concerts (but I only played in Mexico because my mother didn't want me to go too far and most of the time we didn't have money.) My mom was a judge in Michoacan but she rennounced to come with us (my brother and I.) My dad has worked in different jobs during the last 20 years. He has been in the USA all these years, but he visited us constantly. He is now an insurance sales agent and he has a little photography business in which I help a lot (i have nearly 1000 hrs in photography here and Mexico and as an office clerk.) I also have a lot of community service with 700 hrs or more with my church and the migrant program of my sector. And I play in the varsity soccer, basketball, and volleyball teams in my freshman. I haven't played in varsity in fresno, but I play soccer in out-of-school-teams; I was the champion in one of the two I played with and we won the championship of our leage.

I know my chances will be poor due to my stats, but i wanted to know if the schools to were I am applying will look at my history and decide based on this. I am not the best test taker, actually I suck at this. However, I have knowledge in all subjects; specially my language and law and music. I am a questbridge finalist and my last two summers have been in summer school and two leadership camps.

Oh. I want to major in Spanish, foreign languages, political science or any law-related subject. I have heard that if you declare a major that is less popular than others you have more chances, Is it true?
