I'm a male, first generation Hispanic college student (not born in the US).

University of Pennsylvania - Wharton (I want to go here so bad)

SAT I: 1410/2100

740 M

IMHO your GPA and SATs are a little low, in addition to not having a leadership position in an EC nor being able to show a general interest in business period (re: Wharton). However, being a URM helps your chances.

Also, it is important to note that Wharton gives no credit for Cal AB. You’d be better off taking BC if your school offers it, otherwise take it online or self-study.

Wharton = high reach
Brown = high reach
Dartmouth = high reach
Duke = mid reach

I would suggest picking a few safety’s, but when I saw desperate, I was expecting to see bad grades and desperation to get into any school. Your stats look pretty good to me, just bring your SAT scores up a bit more, but you have a good chance. The sky’s the limits. I really don’t like these whole “chance” things b/c it’s like Russian Roulette with these schools, either they like you or they don’t; I’m not an admissions officer, but I feel like you should give it a shot just to do so and b/c you’re a hard worker.

If you applied ED to Wharton I think your URM status could be enough to overcome your low GPA and test scores, (yeah folks, Wharton’s that tough).

Regarding the essay…

No! You want to go there badly!

Edit your essays carefully; it may seem like a small thing, but you never know what is going to catch the eye, good or bad, of an admissions committee.

I dont think any admissions committee is going to care if your SAT score is higher. Your scores are fine. The difference between 690 and 750 on the SAT doesn’t say anything about the relative intelligence of the person.

I really think the SAT is less important than people say it is on here. I imagine admissions officers at the top schools see a score thats 1400ish+ and then forget about it and move on. the difference between 1400/1500/1600 is (for the majority of people) just a the amount of time (and probably money) spent prepping. Doesn’t give much additional information about the person. I’m referring to the old SAT test here, as thats what I took, I don’t know the equivalents in the new test.
