Recap:
Honestly i would be content with just getting into FSU at this point.
Greatest weakness is unweighted GPA, What do colleges look at the most? unweighted? or weighted? As well as ive retaken a significant amount of classes due to IB, Any advice on essays?

bump

In order to be a national merit scholar in Florida your PSAT has to be a 214. If you’re writing this as a Junior their is no way you can be one because you also have to reach 214 on your Junior year which you already confirmed that you got a 207. PSAT’s are only once a schoolar year so sorry about that. I don’t know much about FSU but for UF your EC’s are a little weak as well as your GPA. They love to see strong senior schedules so you can check that off. Make sure you add your disease somewhere in your application to explain your grades and it should make a good hook. Best of luck!

Oh sorry I copied the format from a mother post and must have left that in my bad. And yeah thanks for the advice

You are in a good position for FSU if you can increase your GPA

FSU will use the GPA as it appears on your transcripts. If your school uses weighted GPA, so will FSU. This is something FSU started to do, last fall and it’s something of a trend in admissions (vs. recalculating the GPA).

FSU (and UF) love IB students, as they like the rigor of the program. If your GPA reflects all of the classes you’ve taken (including the ones you had to re-do), then you’re a match at FSU and a slight reach at UF (which will recalculate your GPA). If you can keep your weighted GPA at a 3.5 or better, you could also get accepted to UF. It’s in the bottom 25% range, but your ECs, URM status, first time in college (FTIC) status, etc, help make up for that. You may want to re-take the SAT in the Fall, and try to improve the score (which would help with UF) and may help you earn some merit money.

Af USF and UCF, you may also be able to earn a merit scholarships. Improving your SAT score would help.

Good Luck!

I recommend taking the SAT again in the fall. Your PSAT score was strong enough for you to have a good chance of boosting your scores. My sons both saw substantial increases. Try the ACTs, also - some students have better luck with them. I think you should consider Eckerd and New College of FL. They might be smaller than you’d like, but they practice holistic admissions. New College is part of the Florida State system, and should be affordable. Eckerd offers fairly generous scholarships.
