Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athlete, development( Have sickle cell and still has placed in state in track, and continue to well, so possibly Strong hook because of my disease): Son of adult immigrants? (both parents are originally from Nigeria)

Started High school with the IB program, Main reason my gpa is so low, one of my main hooks is that i have sickle cell anemia, and still compete at a high level in track, despite my disease?(May possibly use this in essay)

Did you drop out of the IB program? If you didn’t complete the IB program, then that’s a negative as colleges like to see that you took the more rigorous classes. This would impact you more at UF/FSU than the other schools.

With that being said, being URM, First Generation, strong EC’s and very good SAT (for the Florida schools) will help a lot. You’re biggest issue is GPA.

UF is a reach, only about 2% of the admitted freshman class had a weighted GPA less than 3.5. With all of the AP classes you’re taking, you may be able to increase your GPA your junior year which would increase your chances.

FSU is a low reach, only about 13% of the admitted freshman class had a weighted GPA under 3.5. If you can raise your GPA into the 3.5 to 3.7 range, you chances increase significantly…making it a high match to match.

UCF and USF are high matches/matches. If you can increase your GPA a bit, you will significant increase your chances, and with your SAT scores, you could earn a merit scholarship.

Good Luck!

(if you want to see the data, google UF or FSU “common data set”)

I’m from FL too so hopefully I can help a little…
I’d disagree that FSU is a reach considering your SAT score but improving your GPA is a good idea there.
As far as UCF/ USF you probably shouldn’t have any issues there many of my friends have gotten in those with similar or worse stats.
I think UF is a reach for you with that 3.3 GPA as it is… most of my friends there had at least 3.7s, but who knows.

Thanks do you need a chance?

UCF and USF- safety or low match
FSU- low reach (mainly b/c of your gpa)

try to improve your gpa by your senior year. everything else looks great!
