Hi, I have a friend applying to Northwestern ED and she wanted to know her chances but didn't have an account.

She's a legacy (dad)
STATS:
GPA: 3.9 (weighted)
SAT: 2080 (don't know the breakdown sorry)
Took 3 AP's junior year APUSH (4) LANG (4) CHEM (4)
Rec's: one is amazing, the other is eh
Common App essay: one of the worst i've ever read

Extracurriculars:
3 season athlete: volleyball, basketball, soccer (only varsity junior and senior years)
Captain of freshman volleyball, freshman soccer
Some minor volunteer work teaching mentally challenged kids to play soccer
DECA: some awards, went to nationals
National Merit Semi-Finalist
National Honor Society

Be as brutal as you want, I'll censor before I tell her...
Thanks!

terrible essay wont help and neither will those SAT scores, however that legacy and GPA and ED will help. If she had a good essay I’d say that it would be a high match, but with a bad essay it’s more of a low reach…

Oh it was VERY bad… cliche, insincere, connected a random childhood event to a completed unrelated extracurricular, and was poorly written. I cringed multiple times while reading it.

I’m curious that a lot of you are saying the GPA is a good match for NU. At our highschool, a weighted 3.9 is pretty low…
