Bump! Anyone?

Hmm,
High Match (only because of legacy/URM), but I don’t know if that’s too generous or to conservative. Chance back?

Legacy/URM’s going to help a lot. SAT scores are okay, and EC’s are typical. Brown’s always a long shot but they have a good a chance as anyone

“Taken several AP courses…but no exams” I think the fact that your friend hasn’t taken any exams could hurt. Whats the point of taking the course w/out the exam?

^ At my school, the AP courses are nothing like what they should be. For example, in APUSH we complete only up until about year 1900. Both AP Chem and AP Bio only end up covering about two-thirds of the curriculum. Block scheduling is probably to blame. So that’s why my friend hasn’t taken any AP exams (yet has gotten As in all the courses). Will colleges really take this into consideration? I think they should.

@InvisibleMonster: Though I am no adcom, I would think that not taking the AP exam could hurt your friend. Unless it is really common for top students @ your school to not take them, I can see it holding your friend back. A URM with nice SAT I, solid SAT IIs, legacy status, high GPA, strong letters/essays, and average ECs seems to be a low reach/high match. Good luck to your friend :)

Chance back please :)

^Let’s refrain from making snide comments about URMs. There are threads where you can discuss the impact of race on admissions; chance threads are not the place.

OP, you(r friend) stands a good chance as a legacy/URM/ED/val.

^ It’s really not me :stuck_out_tongue: but she’s not really my friend lol. It bothers me that she has taken NO exams and has become valedictorian just by taking a bunch of extra classes online. I’m the salutatorian, and I’ve taken 6 AP exams (the most at my school) and gotten all 5s. My SAT (2360) is also much higher than hers…but I’m white. I’m EDing to Columbia, so I’d be pretty disappointed if she gets into Brown early and I don’t get into Columbia early, especially if her race/legacy status were the main factors. Oh well.

Any other opinions?

Someone’s URM status isnt going to lower your chances, so chillax :p

Yeah, but it’ll raise hers! :P

^And?
