My friend (no, I mean this; this is my friend, not me) is interested in colleges. His resume is interesting, and I've always wondered what he's competitive for. So, anyway, here it goes:

SAT I: CR: 620 MA: 650 WR: 720 (11 essay). Plans on retaking.

SAT IIs: Math IC: 670. Spanish: 780.

ECs:
-Founded his own band that plays at many school events, is heavily involved; he's the lead singer/guitarist, and mixes all the tracks on his computer and distributes them on the internet.
-Treasurer of culinary club.
-Very involved in our school theater scene - he sings in the opera.
-Was on the debate team for a while.
-Is a very good artist, if it counts for anything. Is very passionate about art/music. Will have good essays.
-Worked at father's company (carpentry) over the summer.

Courses:
-Has a GPA of 91 at a top public high school (ranked among the top 50 nationally), possibly putting him in the top 10% in a class of 300 or so (our school doesn't rank).
-Will have taken 10 APs by the end of the year, with 3s and 4s on most of them (Euro, US, Physics, Eng Lang, Eng Lit, Bio, Spanish, Econ, Psych, Calc AB).

Other:
-He's Peruvian (i.e., Hispanic). Speaks Spanish fluently.
-Family income below $60,000. Neither parent graduated college.

Colleges to evaluate chances at:
NYU (I think it's a match)
Cornell (match - reach)
University of Maryland (Safety - match)
Others you think meet his stats.

He's most interested in Cornell, and may apply early decision. If so, what do you think his chances are?

Also, I know that a number of colleges give out scholarships and stuff to people from lower income brakets and/or people of Hispanic descent. Any ones in particular which meet his stats?
