<p>You will make it to the final discussion, but keep in mind that many beautifully qualified people don’t get into Duke. My Dukie son assumed he would be waitlisted and I recommend this outlook to everyone. He was 15th in his class and in the top 5% but by no means a shoe-in. I know two valedictorians in my home area who were not even waitlisted. Our son was admitted to Duke and waitlisted at his crush college. He LOVES Duke and although he just graduated…been back twice already.
Regarding your ECs, I don’t think you have to be Prez of anything…but write well about what you have a passion for in life instead.<br>
I recommend that you write wonderful essays about who you are and what your bring with you to Duke, that you read the Chronicle weekly, and that you search Duke for places you are likely to contribute. Get an alum interview next fall, and go for it. Just have other plans at other colleges. Duke is a great university but there are thankfully many colleges of merit in the USA that will be most happy to admit you. </p>
