Chance a girl for Hotelie Major :)

Hi guys I was wondering if you could chance me for the Hotel programs at

Cornell
BU
NYU

Graduating in 2010
Female, White
GPA: 4.2 (hopefully about 4.3ish after this year) weighted, not sure of unweighted

SAT:
1350/1600 -- 2060/2400
630 CR, 710 WR, 720 M
- will take again and hopefully get at least a 700 on CR and raise others a bit more

SAT 2: will take Bio and Math 2...hopefully get above a 700 on both

AP: Bio this year, Calc BC, Chem, and possible Spanish next year.

ECs:
1 year JV, 2 yr varsity volleyball - will be captain my senior year
Editor of Newspaper
Member of National Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society

Job:
Work at Holiday Inn - have been nominated for Employee of the Month (this year I only work one day a week so it would be weird if I did win compared to all the other people who work a lot more hours than me)
Working a wide range at the hotel - hostess at resturant, room service, working at different functions and events as well
Hopefully will do an intern type thing this summer - go into more of the hotel aspect (marketing,pr,etc)

Let me know what you think!

Definitely do that, especially considering you basically have no EC’s.

BU and NYU are high matches/low reaches for you. Cornell is definitely a high reach though, primarily because of your lack of EC’s and low SAT score. It’s good that you have experience working at a hotel (I assume. I’m not too familiar with the ridiculousness that is the hotel major) but aside from that all I see are two clubs and a sport.

anyone else?

I disagree with Godfatherbob, asya’s ECs aren’t half bad. Varsity sport, not to mention captain, leadership position in newspaper club, the two NHS’s…

But still, I agree with the fact that you should definitely get an internship over the summer.
If you can work 7-8 hours a day 5 days a week, that’s 160 hours a month and 320 hours for 2 months. If you can get 300+ hours interning at something hotel-related, your chances will shoot up for all three schools.

However, I have to add that Cornell’s hotel school is highly sought for and highly selective!!!

Try to nail a 800 on MathII and boost your SAT to 2100+ and you will be a competitive applicant at Cornell’s Hotel Program.

Good luck!
